While an object, such as a skydiver, is falling, it has kinetic energy due to its motion. Some of the object's kinetic energy is transferred to the air that it falls through, causing the air to move and heating it.

So, some of the kinetic energy from the skydiver becomes heat energy in the atmosphere. B

B is the best answer. The skydiver's velocity is decreased (his acceleration is slowed) by giving some of his kinetic energy to the surrounding air, causing it to heat up. On a molecular level, his kinetic energy is being lost to increase the kinetic energy of the air molecules. Faster molecules in a gas means a higher temperature of the gas, or heat energy.

A book rests on the shelf of a bookcase. The reaction force to the force of gravity acting on the book is 1. The force of the sh
Hoochie [10]

Answer:

1. The force of the shelf holding the book up.

Explanation:

The free body diagram of the book is as follows:

1 - The weight of the book towards downwards

2 - The normal force that the shelf exerts on the book towards upwards.

Since the book is at rest, these two forces are equal to each other and according to Newton's Third Law the reaction force to the force of gravity is equal but opposite to the weight of the book. This reaction force is the one that holds the book up on the shelf.

1) What is the highest atomic number element a red dwarf star can produce in its core? a. Carbon b. Oxygen c. Helium d. Iron
bonufazy [111]

Answer:

1) c. Helium

2) Iron

3) False.

Explanation:

1. Red dwarf is the smallest and the coolest star on the sequence. These are common stars in the milky way. Red dwarfs contains metals and the elements with higher atomic number. It is found that Helium is produced in red dwarf stars.

2. Iron is the highest atomic number element that is produced in cores of largest stars. The highest mass stars can make all elements up to iron, which is the heaviest element they can produce.

3. The end of stars life is dependent on the mass they are born with. It is not necessary that all red dwarf stars will become white dwarf stars faster than sun like star.

A standing wave of the third overtone is induced in a stopped pipe, 2.5 m long. The speed of sound is The frequency of the sound
NemiM [27]

Answer:

f3 = 102 Hz

Explanation:

To find the frequency of the sound produced by the pipe you use the following formula:

f_n=\frac{nv_s}{4L}

n: number of the harmonic = 3

vs: speed of sound = 340 m/s

L: length of the pipe = 2.5 m

You replace the values of n, L and vs in order to calculate the frequency:

f_{3}=\frac{(3)(340m/s)}{4(2.5m)}=102\ Hz

hence, the frequency of the third overtone is 102 Hz

A fly has a mass of 1 gram at rest. how fast would it have to be traveling to have the mass of a large suv, which is about 3000
Zigmanuir [339]

We solve this using special relativity. Special relativity actually places the relativistic mass to be the rest mass factored by a constant "gamma". The gamma is equal to 1/sqrt (1 - (v/c)^2).

We want a ratio of 3000000 to 1, or 3 million to 1.

Therefore:
3E6 = 1/sqrt (1 - (v/c)^2)
1 - (v/c)^2 = (0.000000333)^2
0.99999999999999 = (v/c)^2
0.99999999999999 = v/c
v= 99.999999999999% of the speed of light ~ speed of light
v = 3 x 10^8 m/s
