I don't understand what you mean by 300 and 70, unless you meant 300/70 (in that case it would be 30/7).

5/10 would be 1/5

8/100 would be 2/25.

Hello!

There are many other ways you can write these fractions. They are called "equivalent fractions".

Equivalent fractions mean the same thing as other fractions. You can get an equivalent fraction by either multiplying or dividing the numerator and the denominator of the fraction by the SAME number.

300/70 ÷ 10 = 30/7

So, 300/70 is equivalent to 30/7. You can also multiply by, say, 2.

300 × 2 = 600

70 × 2 = 140

So, 600/140 is also another fraction that is equivalent to 300/70.

5/10 is equivalent to 10/20, 15/30, 20/40, and many more fractions.

8/100 is equivalent to 4/50, 2/25, etc.

A contractor has found that her cost for a certain construction job is subject to random variation. She believes its actual valu
bearhunter [10]

Answer:

Attached is the profit distribution plotted on the chart and also the detailed solution using excel

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve this problem we have to

  • create a column for number of counts ( 1,2,3........1000) bids
  • create a column for the cost to be incurred which is mostly dependent on the random number generated. the formula for that using excel is; 9000+ rand()*(11000-9000) for uniform distribution between the numbers
  • Four(4) more columns are generated for bids of competitors by using the formula: 10000+rand()*(3*10000-10000) this because the bids that will be submitted by others bidders will vary uniformly between her mean cost and 3 times her mean cost
  • Condition is checked to see if  the lowest bid is. =IF(MIN(the 4 bids)>14000,1,0)
  • Next the same process is carried out for 13000 and 15000
  • The probability of winning is calculated in excel using this formula =Countif(value of step 4 for all the rows,1)/1000

Two parabolas have the same focus, namely the point $(3,-28).$ Their directrices are the $x$-axis and the $y$-axis, respectively
jeyben [28]

Answer:

the slope of the common cord is: -1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the focus (a,b) = (3,-28)

  • for a parabola with directrix at x-axis the equation will be

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}=y^{2}

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-y^{2}=0

  • for a parabola with directrix at y-axis the equation will be

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}=x^{2}

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-x^{2}=0

The common chord is the line between two points where the two parabolas intersect. For intersection, we can equate the two parabolas!

In other words, at the point of intersection of these two parabolas the values of the two parabolas will be the same.

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-y^{2}=\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-x^{2}

\left(x-3\right)^{2}+\left(y+28\right)^{2}-y^{2}=\left(x-3\right)^{2}+\left(y+28\right)^{2}-x^{2}

we can now simplify the equation. (we can see that (x-3) and (y+28) both cancel out by -(x-3) and -(y+28))

-y^{2}=-x^{2}

y=\sqrt{x^{2}}

y=\pm x

this the equation of the common cord. but we need to select whether its

y=+ x or y=-x.

This can be found by realizing that the focus lies on the 4th quadrant of the xy-plane! And the equation y=-x also generates a line that exists in the 2nd and 4th quadrant.

Hence the slope of the common cord is the slope of the line y=-x

that is : -1

Hey next time use your calculator, if you can.

Since these problems are using this equation : A(mount) = P(rinciple) * ( 1 + R(ate) ^ {t(ime)} ) we can derive into this immediately.
