According to Arrhenius theory, acid is a substance that releases H⁺ ions when dissolved in water.

In order to apply this theory, the substance must be soluble in water.

H₂SO₄ is highly soluble in water. It undergoes following dissociation reaction when dissolved in water.

H_{2}SO_{4}(aq)\overset{H_{2}O}{\rightarrow} 2H^{+}(aq)+ SO_{4}^{2-}(aq)

From the above equation, we can see that H₂SO₄ forms 2 H⁺ ions when dissolved in water. Therefore it behaves as an acid according to Arrhenius theory.

Dafna1 [17]
We can calculate the mass percent of an element by dividing its atomic mass by the mass of the compound and then multiply by 100:
     % by mass of element = (mass of element/mass of compound) x100%
Impurities like n-eicosane with the molecular formula C20H42 could account for the low percent by mass of oxygen in the sample because it has a zero percent oxygen based on its compound formula which indicates that it does not have the element oxygen.

A bag of fertilizer is labeled 10-20-20. What is the actual percentage of phosphorus in the fertilizer?
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

Answer:

20% of phosphorus

Explanation:

A fertilizer is used to improve the fertility of soils. Most fertilizers contains the element nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

They are often designated NPK fertilizers.

  Now we know that the numbers 10-20-20 depicts the nitrogen-phosphorus and potassium content of the fertilizer.

From the designation,

    The actual percentage is 20% of phosphorus.

                                               10%  of nitrogen

                                                20% of potassium

How many atoms of Mg are present in 97.22 grams of Mg?
Lostsunrise [7]

Answer: Option (b) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

It is given that mass of Mg is 97.22 g and it is known that molar mass of Mg is 24.305 g/mol.

So, calculate the number of moles as follows.

          No. of moles = \frac{mass given in grams}{Molar mass}

                                 = \frac{97.22 g}{24.305 g/mol}

                                 = 4 mol

Also, it is known that 1 mole has 6.023 \times 10^{23} atoms/mol. Therefore, calculate the number of atoms in 4 mol as follows.

               4 mol \times 6.023 \times 10^{23} atoms/mol

               = 24.08 \times 10^{23} atoms

or,            = 2.408 \times 10^{23} atoms

Thus, we can conclude that there are 2.408 \times 10^{23} atoms in 97.22 grams of Mg.
