If a flea jumps straight up, and if air resistance is neglected (a rather poor approximation in this situation), how high does the flea go?

Answer;

=0.065 m or 65 mm

Explanation;

v = √(2as)

= √(2 * 1100m/s² * 0.00058 m) = 1.276 m/s

Therefore;  initial velocity = 1.276 m/s

Then s = v² / 2g

g = 9.8 m/s²

            = (1.276m/s)² / 19.6 m/s²

            = 0.065 m  or 65 mm

A 10-kg dog is running with a speed of 5.0 m/s. what is the minimum work required to stop the dog in 2.40 s?
Tasya [4]

Answer;

Work = 125 joules

Explanation and solution;

  • Work is the product of force and the distance covered. Therefore, Work = force × distance.
  • Work is measured in joules.
  • Work is also a change in energy, such that work is done when energy changes, so when kinetic energy, or potential energy changes the there is work being done.

Thus; kinetic energy = work done

Kinetic energy = 1/2mv²

                       = 1/2 × 10× 5²

                       = 5 × 25

                       = 125 joules

Hence, work done is 125 joules.

When light energy hits the retina, the retinal changes from a _____ to a _____ configuration.
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

Cis, Trans.

Explanation:

Rhodopsin also known as visual purple, pigment which contains sensory protein that helps to convert light into an electrical signal. Rhodopsin present in wide range of organisms from bacteria to vertebrates.

Rhodopsin is composed of opsin, and 11-cis-retinaldehyde which is derived from vitamin A. When the eye contact with light the 11-cis component converted to all trans-retinal, which results in the changes in configuration fundamental in the rhodopsin molecule.

A toy plane has a mass of 2.5 kg and is 18 m above the ground. It is moving at 4.5 m/s. How much mechanical energy does the toy
sleet_krkn [62]
Mechanical energy is the sum of kinetic energy and potential energy, or E=Ek+Ep. So Ek=(1/2)*m*v² where m is the mass of the object and v is it's velocity. Mp=m*g*h where m is the mass, g=9.81 m/s² and h is the height of the object. So after we input the numbers the total mechanical energy is
E=(1/2)*2.5*(4.5²) + 2.5*9.81*18 = 25.3125 J + 441.45 J = 466.7625 J. The correct answer is E= 466 J.
