Answers:

a. 1.28 mol/L; b. 17.0 %; c. 0.0227; d. 1.29 mol/kg

Explanation:

a. Molar concentration

c = moles/litres

Moles = 167 × 1/159.61     Do the calculation

Moles = 1.046 mol

Litres = 820 × 1/1000      Do the calculation

Litres = 0.8200 L Calculate the molar concentration

c = 1.046/0.8200            Do the division

c = 1.28 mol·L⁻¹

===============

b. Percent by mass

Mass % = mass of solute /mass of solution × 100 %

Mass of solution = volume × density Insert the values

Mass of solution = 820 × 1.195 Do the multiplication

Mass of solution = 979.9 g Calculate the mass %

Mass % = 167/979.9 × 100                      Do the operations

Mass % = 17.0 %

===============

c. Mole fraction

χ = moles of solute/(moles of solvent + moles of solute)

Mass of solvent = mass of solution – mass of solute

Mass of solvent = 979.9 – 167 Do the subtraction

Mass of solvent = 812.9 g Convert to moles

Moles of water = 812.9 × 1/18.02 Do the calculation

Moles of water = 45.11 mol Calculate the total moles

Total moles = 1.046 + 45.11              Do the addition

Total moles = 46.16 mol Calculate the mole fraction

χ = 1.046/46.16                                  Do the division

χ = 0.0227

===============

d. Molal concentration

b = moles of solute/kilograms of solvent

Mass of solvent = 812.9 g = 0.8129 kg Calculate the molal concentration

b = 1.046/0.8129                                         Do the division

b = 1.29 mol/kg

What is the ratio of the diffusion rates of cl2 and o2? rate cl2 : o2 = 0.47 0.67 0.45 0.69 1.5?
matrenka [14]
The ratio of the diffusion rate of Cl2 and O2 is 1.5

    calculation
rate of diffusion Cl2/ rate of diffusion O2 =√ molar mass of Cl2/ molar mass of O2

molar  mass of Cl2  = 35.5 x2 = 71  g/mol
molar  mass O2  = 16 x2 =32g/mol

that is rate of diffusion Cl2/ rate of diffusion of O2 =√ 71/ 32= 1.5

What volume of water should be used to dissolve 19.6 g of LiF to create a 0.320 M solution?
USPshnik [31]

Answer:

2.4 litters of water are required.

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of LiF = 19.6 g

Molarity of solution = 0.320 M

Volume of water used = ?

Solution:

Number of moles = mass/molar mass

Number of moles = 19.6 g/ 26 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.75 mol

Volume required:

Molarity = number of moles/ volume in L

Now we will put the values in above given formula.

0.320 M = 0.75 mol /  volume in L

Volume in L = 0.75 mol  /0.320 M

     M = mol/L

Volume in L = 2.4 L

Dmitrij [34]

Explanation:

The highest principal energy level of period 2 elements is 2. (True)

The highest principle energy level of elements of any period is equal to period number. So the given statement is true.

Period 3 elements all have six 3p electrons – (False)

For example, sodium and sulfur are period 3 elements but do not contain six 3p electrons. Only Argon of period possesses six p-electrons.

Period 4 elements have an inner electron configuration of [Ar]- (True)

Atomic number of elements belonging to period 4 have atomic number more than 18 (atomic number of Ar). So they must have an inner electron configuration of [Ar]

The valence electrons of group 5A elements are in the 6s subshell – [FALSE]

Elements of group 5A are nitrogen, arsenic, antimony and bismuth. They are p-block elements. Therefore, valence electrons are present in p-subshell.

Group 8A elements have full outer principal s and p subshells –(True)

Group 8A elements are also known as noble gas element. Octets of noble gases are complete and hence, have full outer principal s and p subshells.

The valence electrons of group 2A elements are in an s subshell – (True)

Elements of group 2A are barium, magnesium, calcium, etc. They belong to s-block elements. Therefore, their valence electrons will be in s-subshell.

The highest principal energy level of period 3 elements is 4 – (False)

The highest principle energy level of elements of any period is equal to period number.

For example, sodium is present in 3rd period, so its principle quantum number will be 3.

Period 5 elements have an inner electron configuration of [Xe] – (False)

Period 5 elements have an inner electron configuration of [Kr]. The first member of this period is rubidium. 37 and that of Kr is 36.

A mixture of carbon dioxide and an unknown gas was allowed to effuse from a container. The carbon dioxide took 1.25 times as lon
Aleks04 [339]

Answer:

CO

Explanation:

From Graham's law, time taken to diffuse is directly proportional to the molecular mass of the gases. For two different gases.

t1/t2=√m1/m2

Since gas 1 diffuse 1.25 times as slowly as gas 2 and gas 1 is CO2 with m as 44g

1.25/1=√44/m2

Therefore m2=28g CO
