Answer:

b). The same for all pipes independent of the diameter

Explanation:

We know,

R_{conduction}=\frac{ln(\frac{r_{2}}{r_{1}})}{2\pi LK}

R_{convection}=\frac{1}{h(2\pi r_{2}L)}

From the above formulas we can conclude that the thermal resistance of a substance mainly depends upon heat transfer coefficient,whereas radius has negligible effects on heat transfer coefficient.

We also know,

Factors on which thermal resistance of insulation depends are :

1. Thickness of the insulation

2. Thermal conductivity of the insulating material.

Therefore from above observation we can conclude that the thermal resistance of the insulation is same for all pipes independent of diameter.

thermal energy is being added to steam at 475.8 kPa and 75% quality. determine the amount of thermal energy to be added to creat
eduard

Answer:

q_{in} = 528.6\,\frac{kJ}{kg}

Explanation:

Let assume that heating process occurs at constant pressure, the phenomenon is modelled by the use of the First Law of Thermodynamics:

q_{in} = h_{g} - h_{mix}

The specific enthalpies are:

Liquid-Vapor Mixture:

h_{mix} = 2217.2\,\frac{kJ}{kg}

Saturated Vapor:

h_{g} = 2745.8\,\frac{kJ}{kg}

The thermal energy per unit mass required to heat the steam is:

q_{in} = 2745.8\,\frac{kJ}{kg} - 2217.2\,\frac{kJ}{kg}

q_{in} = 528.6\,\frac{kJ}{kg}

Q4. What happen when a steady potential is connected across the end points of the [3] conductor? Illustrate with an example.
den301095 [7]

Answer: Flow of current and the resistance to the flow of the current.

Explanation:

When a steady potential is connected across the end points of the conductor, there will be a of current through the conductor and the internal resistance in the conductor will tend to resist the flow of the current

A good example is a simple circuit comprises of a battery, wires and a touch bulb.

When the battery is connected to the two ends of the torch bulb, current flow through and the bulb is lit up.

Steam enters a turbine operating at steady state at 1 MPa, 200 °C and exits at 40 °C with a quality of 83%. Stray heat transfer
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

(a) Work out put=692.83\frac{KJ}{Kg}

(b) Change in specific entropy=0.0044\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

Explanation:

Properties of steam at 1 MPa and 200°C

        h_1=2827.4\frac{KJ}{Kg},s_1=6.69\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

We know that if we know only one property in side the dome then we will find the other property by using steam property table.

Given that dryness or quality of steam at the exit of turbine is 0.83 and temperature T=40°C.So from steam table we can find pressure corresponding to saturation temperature 40°C.

Properties of saturated steam at 40°C

      h_f= 167.5\frac{KJ}{Kg} ,h_g= 2537.4\frac{KJ}{Kg}

 s_f= 0.57\frac{KJ}{Kg-K} ,s_g= 8.25\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

So the enthalpy of steam at the exit of turbine

h_2=h_f+x(h_g-h_f)\frac{KJ}{Kg}

h_2=167.5+0.83(2537.4-167.5)\frac{KJ}{Kg}

h_2=2134.57\frac{KJ}{Kg}

s_2=s_f+x(s_g-s_f)\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

s_2=0.57+0.83(8.25-0.57)\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

s_2=6.6944\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

(a)

Work out put =h_1-h_2

                      =2827.4-2134.57 \frac{KJ}{Kg}

Work out put =692.83 \frac{KJ}{Kg}

(b) Change in specific entropy

     s_2-s_1=6.6944-6.69\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

Change in specific entropy =0.0044\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

What is the linear distance traveled in one revolution of a 36-inch wheel
Afina-wow [57]

Answer:

  36π inches ≈ 113.0973 inches

Explanation:

The circumference of the wheel is pi times its diameter.

  C = πd

  C = π(36 in) = 36π in ≈ 113.0973 in

The distance around the wheel is 36π inches, about 113.0973 inches.
