Light is refracted as it travels from a point A in medium 1 to a point B in medium 2. If the index of refraction is 1.33 in medi

Answer: 0.000001475s=1.475\mu s

Explanation:

The index of refraction n is a number that describes how fast light propagates through a medium or material.

Being its equation as follows:

n=\frac{c}{v} (1)

Where c=3(10)^{8}m/s is the speed of light in vacuum and v its speed in the other medium.

So, from (1) we can find the velocity at which the light travels and then the time it requires to travel : v=\frac{c}{n} (2)

For medium 1:

n_{1}=1.33

v_{1}=\frac{c}{n_{1}} (3)

v_{1}=\frac{3(10)^{8}m/s}{1.33}=225563909.8m/s (4)

For medium 2:

n_{2}=1.51

v_{2}=\frac{c}{n_{2}} (5)

v_{2}=\frac{3(10)^{8}m/s}{1.51}=198675496.7m/s (6)

On the other hand, the velocity v is the distance d traveled in a time t:

v=\frac{d}{t} (7)

We can isolate t from (7) and find the value of the required time:

t=\frac{d}{v} (8)

In this case the total time will be:

t=t_{1}+t_{2}=\frac{d_{1}}{v_{1}}+\frac{d_{2}}{v_{2}} (9)

Where:

d_{1}=331cm=3.31m is the distance the light travels in medium 1

d_{2}=151cm=1.51m is the distance the light travels in medium 2

v_{1}=225563909.8m/s is the velocity of light in medium 1

v_{2}=198675496.7m/s is the velocity of light in medium 2

t=t_{1}+t_{2}=\frac{3.31m}{225563909.8m/s}+\frac{1.51m}{198675496.7m/s} (10)

Finally:

t=0.000001475s=1.475(10)^{-6}s=1.475\mu s (10)

An egg falls from a nest at a height of 4m. What speed will it have when it is 1m from the ground? Neglect air resistance and ta
Zolol [24]

Answer: 7.66 m/s

Explanation:

This situation is related to free fall (vertical motion). Hence, this can be considered a one-dimension problem and we can use the following equation:

V^{2}=V_{o}^{2}+2gd

Where:

V is the final velocity of the egg at the asked height

V_{o}=0 m/s is the initial velocity of the egg

g=9.8 m/s^{2} is the acceleration due gravity

d=4 m- 1m= 3m is the distance at which the egg is from the nest, when it is 1 m from the ground

Isolating V:

V=\sqrt{V_{o}^{2}+2gd}

Substituting the known values:

V=\sqrt{2(9.8 m/s^{2})(3 m)}

V=7.66 m/s This is the final velocity of the egg

Satellite technology has allowed us to monitor areas that were once so remote that we had no way of monitoring them. Review the
wolverine [178]

Answer: Satellite technology allows us to monitor and track the changes in the polar ice sheets. This can help us plan and direct conservation efforts for the animals that depend on polar ice in order to survive.

Explanation:

A satellite orbits around Earth. We have different satellites for different purposes. A satellite has transmitter and receiver for sending and receiving information.  For the use of environment, only one statement seems correct that is: Satellite technology allows us to monitor and track the changes in the polar ice sheets. This can help us plan and direct conservation efforts for the animals that depend on polar ice in order to survive.

Rest options are true but not from the environment point of view.

We know that animals are dependent on the environment for their survival. polar ice caps are difficult to reach and monitor. For making conservation plan for the animals residing in these remote areas, satellite technology is very crucial.

A 2200 kg truck has put its front bumper against the rear bumper of a 2400 kg SUV to give it a push. With the engine at full pow
leonid [27]

Answer:

a) The maximum possible acceleration the truck can give the SUV is 7.5 meters per second squared

b) The force of the SUV's bumper on the truck's bumper is 18000 newtons

Explanation:

a) By Newton's second law we can find the relation between force and acceleration of the SUV:

F=ma

With F the maximum force the truck applies to the SUV, m the mass of the SUV and a the acceleration of the SUV; solving for a:

a=\frac{F}{m}=\frac{18000}{2400}\approx7.5\,\frac{m}{s^{2}}

b) Because at this acceleration the truck's bumper makes a force of 18000 N on the SUV’s bumper by Third Newton’s law the force of the SUV’s bumper on the truck’s bumper is 18000 N too because they are action-reaction force pairs.

A 10-kilogram box is at static equilibrium, and the downward pull of gravity acting on the box is 98 newtons. What is the minimu
Nikolay [14]
The box is at equilibrium, so the net force on the box is zero (the force of gravity on the box is equal to the force exerted up on the box by the surface on which it rests.)
To pick up the box, our upward force must be greater than the force of gravity on the box (the weight). So, we must lift up the box with a force greater than 98 newtons. :)
