When switched on, the grinding machine accelerates from rest to its operating speed of 3550 rev/min in 10 seconds. When switched

off, it coasts to rest in 31 seconds. Determine the number of revolutions turned during both the startup and shutdown periods. Also determine the number of revolutions turned during the first half of each period. Assume uniform angular acceleration in both cases.

Answer:

During start total turns

N_1 = 296 turn

After half of the time total turns

N_3 = \frac{29.6 + 0}{2}(5) = 74 turns

Total number of turns during it stop

N_2 = \frac{59.17 + 0}{2}(31) = 917 turn

After half of the time total turns

N_4 = 688 turns

Explanation:

Initially the machine is at rest and then starts rotating with speed 3550 rev/min

now we will have

f = \frac{3550}{60} = 59.17 rev/s

now we know that it took 10 s to reach the speed

so angular acceleration is given as

\alpha = \frac{\omega_f - \omega_i}{t}

\alpha = \frac{59.17- 0}{10} = 5.917 rev/s^2

now it stops in 31 s so the angular deceleration is given as

\alpha_2 = -\frac{59.17}{31} = -1.91 rev/s^2

now initially number of turn to reach the given speed

N_1 = \frac{59.17 + 0}{2}(10) = 296 turn

number of turns during it stop

N_2 = \frac{59.17 + 0}{2}(31) = 917 turn

Now during startup speed after t = 5 s is given as

\omega_1 = (5.917)(5) = 29.6 rev/s

N_3 = \frac{29.6 + 0}{2}(5) = 74 turns

now during it stop the speed after half the time is given as

\omega_2 = 59.17 - (1.91)(15.5) = 29.56 rev/s

now the number of turns is given as

N_4 = \frac{59.17 + 29.56}{2}(15.5)

N_4 = 688 turns

A uniform beam XY is 100 cm long and weighs 4.0N.The beam rests on a pivot 60 cm from end X. A load of 8.0 N hangs from the beam
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

<h2>The magnitude of force F is 18N</h2>

Explanation:

The magnitude of the force in the set up can be solved for using the principle of moment. According to the principle, the sum of clockwise moment  is equal to the sum of anticlockwise moments.

Moment = Force * perpendicular distance

Clockwise moments;

The force that acts clockwise is the unknown Force F and 4N force. If the  beam rests on a pivot 60 cm from end X and a Force F acts on the beam 80 cm from end X, the perpendicular distance of the force F from the pivot is 80-60 = 20cm and the perpendicular distance of the 4N force from the pivot is 60-50 = 10cm

Moment of force F about the pivot = F * 20

Moment of 4N force about the pivot = 4*10 = 40Nm

Sum of clockwise moment = 40+20F...(1)

Anticlockwise moment;

The  8N will act anticlockwisely about the pivot.

The distance between the 8N force and the pivot is 60-10 = 50cm

Moment of the 8N force = 8*50

=400Nm...(1)

Equating 1 and 2 we have;

40+20F = 400

20F = 400-40

20F = 360

F = 18N

The magnitude of force F is 18N

A bee wants to fly to a flower located due North of the hive on a windy day. The wind blows from East to West at speed 6.68 m/s.
Aleonysh [2.5K]

Answer:  53.31\° East of North

Explanation:

We have the following data:

Speed of the wind from East to West: 6.68 m/s

Speed of the bee relative to the air:  8.33 m/s

If we graph these speeds (which in fact are velocities because are vectors) in a vector diagram, we will have a right triangle in which the airspeed of the bee (its speed relative to te air) is the hypotense and the two sides of the triangle will be the <u>Speed of the wind from East to West</u> (in the horintal part) and the <u>speed due North relative to the ground</u> (in the vertical part).

Now, we need to find the direction the bee should fly directly to the flower (due North):

sin \theta=\frac{Windspeed-from-East-to-West}{Speed-bee-relative-to-air}

sin \theta=\frac{6.68 m/s}{8.33 m/s}

Clearing \theta:

\theta=sin^{-1} (\frac{6.68 m/s}{8.33 m/s})

\theta=53.31\°

A sharpening wheel is traveling at 5 rad/s, it slows down to rest in 30 seconds while sharpening an axe. What is its angular acc
Ratling [72]

Answer:

Angular acceleration = 0.167 rad/s^2

Explanation:

Given

Initial Angular velocity (w1) = 5 rad/s

Final Angular velocity (w2) = 0 rad/s

Time taken to change velocity from w1 to w2 = 30 seconds

Angular acceleration is equal to the change in angular velocity to the time taken for making thing change

Hence, Angular acceleration

\frac{w_2 -w_1}{t} \\\frac{5-0}{30}\\0.167rad/s^2
