A teacher sends her students on a treasure hunt. She gives the following instructions: · Walk 300 m north · Walk 400 m northwest

· Walk 700 m east-southeast and the treasure is buried there. As all the other students walk off following the instructions, Jane physics student quickly adds the displacements and walks in a straight line to find the treasure. How far (in meters) does Jane need to walk?

Answer:

Magnitude of displacement = 481.24 m

Direction = 40.88 degrees north east.

Explanation:

Let east is along real axis and north is along imaginary axis. So,

First walk = d1 = J300 m

Second walk = d2 = -400Cos(45) + J400Sin(45) = (-282.84 + J282.84) m

Third walk = d3 = 700Cos(22.5) – J700Sin(22.5) = (646.71 – J267.88) m

Total displacement = d = d1 + d2 + d2 = (363.86 + J314.96)m

Magnitude = √((363.86)^2+(314.96)^2) = 481.24 m

Direction = arctan(314.96/363.86) = 40.88 degrees north east.

Answer:

displacement is 481.3 m  with 40.88° north east

Explanation:

given data

walk 1 = 300 m north = 300 j

walk 2 = 400 m northwest =400 cos(45) i + sin(45) j

walk 3 = 700 m east southeast  = 700 cos(22.5) i- sin(22.5) j

to find out

displacement and direction

solution

we consider here direction x as east and direction y as north

so

displacement = distance 1 + distance 2 + distance 3

displacement = 300 j + 400 cos(45) i + sin(45) j + 700 cos(22.5) i- sin(22.5) j

we get here

displacement = 363.9 i + 315 j

so magnitude

displacement = \sqrt{363.9^{2}+315^{2}  }

displacement = 481.3 m

and angle will be = arctan(315/369.9)

angle = 0.713494059 rad

angle is 40.88 degree

so displacement is 481.3 m  with 40.88° north east

A standard baseball has a circumference of approximately 23 cm . if a baseball had the same mass per unit volume as a neutron or
Svetlanka [38]

<u>Answer:</u>

 Mass of base ball  m_b=3.992*10^{14}kg

<u>Explanation:</u>

  Circumference of baseball = 2πr = 23 cm

  So radius of baseball = 3.66 cm = 3.66*10^{-2} m

   Mass per unit volume of baseball = Mass per unit volume of neutron or proton.

   Mass of proton = 10^{-27} kg

   Diameter of proton = 10^{-15} m

   Radius of proton =  5*10^{-16} m

   Volume of ball = \frac{4}{3} \pi r^3

   Now substituting all values in Mass per unit volume of baseball = Mass per unit volume of neutron or proton.

         \frac{m_b}{\frac{4}{3}\pi *(3.66*10^{-2})^3} =\frac{10^{-27}}{\frac{4}{3}\pi *(5*10^{-16})^3}

         \frac{m_b}{(3.66*10^{-2})^3} =\frac{10^{-27}}{(5*10^{-16})^3}

         m_b=3.992*10^{14}kg

       So mass of base ball  m_b=3.992*10^{14}kg

A baseball of mass m = 0.49 kg is dropped from a height h1 = 2.25 m. It bounces from the concrete below and returns to a final h
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

Impulse = change in momentum

mv - mu , v and u are final and initial velocity during impact at surface

For downward motion of baseball

v² = u² + 2gh₁

= 2 x 9.8 x 2.25

v = 6.64 m / s

It becomes initial velocity during impact .

For body going upwards

v² = u² - 2gh₂

u² = 2 x 9.8 x 1.38

u = 5.2 m / s

This becomes final velocity after impact

change in momentum

m ( final velocity - initial velocity )

.49 ( 5.2 - 6.64 )

= .7056 N.s.

Impulse by floor in upward direction

= .7056 N.s

A soccer ball kicked with a force of 13.5 n accelerates at 6.5 m/s^2 to the right. what is the mass of the ball?
natita [175]

Answer:

2.08 kg

Explanation:

Newton's second law states that the acceleration of an object is proportional to the force applied to the object, according to the equation:

F=ma

where F is the force applied, m is the mass of the object and a its acceleration.

In this situation, the soccer ball is kicked with a force F=13.5 N and its acceleration is a=6.5 m/s^2, therefore its mass is

m=\frac{F}{a}=\frac{13.5 N}{6.5 m/s^2}=2.08 kg

A pump jack scaffold must be fitted with two ______ gripping mechanisms to prevent slippage.
FromTheMoon [43]
A pump jack scaffold must be fitted with two positive gripping mechanisms to prevent slippage. Pump jacks are a uniquely designed scaffold consisting of a platform supported by movable brackets on vertical poles. The brackets are designed to be raised and lowered in a manner similar to an automobile jack. It is important to make sure that pump jack brackets have two positive gripping mechanisms to prevent any failure or slippage.

The index of refraction of a certain material is 1.25. If I send red light (700 nm) through the material, what will the frequenc
Readme [11.4K]

Answer:

f1 / f2 = n2 / n1

Explanation:

To solve this problem, we should remember that the formula for index of refraction is defined as:

n = c / v

or

n v = c

Where,

n = index of refraction

c = speed of light

v = speed of light in the medium

Since speed of light is constant, then we can simply equate the materials 1 and 2:

n1 v1 = n2 v2

Where the speed of light in the medium (v) can be expressed as:

v = w * f

Where,

w = wavelength of light

f = frequency of light

Therefore substituting this back into the relating equation:

n1  w1 f1 = n1  w2 f1

Since it is given that the light is monochromatic, w1 = w2, this further simplifies the equation to:

n1 f1 = n2 f2

f1 / f2 = n2 / n1                  (ANSWER)
