Carl travelled the 1900 km from his home

Mathematics
1 answer:
Katyanochek1 [597]2 years ago

Answer:

No solution for the problem

Step-by-step explanation:

- Carl traveled the 1900 km from his home  in Eastern Ontario to

  Winnipeg

- He  traveled by bus to Toronto at an average  speed of 60 km/h

- Then flew to  Winnipeg at an average speed of  100 km/h

- His total travelling time was  7 hours

- We need to find the distance he traveled by bus and by airplane

∵ The total distance he traveled is 1900 km

- If he traveled d km by airplane, then the distance traveled by bus

  is 1900 - d

- The total time is 7 hrs

∴ The time of the bus + the time of the airplane = 7

∵ The time of the bus = the distance by bus ÷ the speed of the bus

∵ The speed of the bus = 60 km/h

∵ The distance by bus = 1900 - d

∴ The time of the bus = \frac{1900-d}{60}

∵ The speed of the airplane = 100 km/h

∵ The distance by airplane = d

∴ The time of the airplane = \frac{d}{100}

∵ The total time = 7 hours

∴ \frac{d}{100}+\frac{1900-d}{60}=7

- To cancel the denominator multiply all the terms by 600

∴ 6d + 10(1900 - d) = 4200

∴ 6d + 19000 - 10d = 4200

- Add like terms in the left hand side

∴ -4d + 19000 = 4200

- subtract 19000 from both sides

∴ -4d = -14800

- Divide both sides by -4

∴ d = 3700

∵ d represents the distance traveled by airplane

∴ The distance traveled by airplane is 3700 Km and that is impossible

   because the total distance is 1900 km which is less than this distance,

   and the distance traveled by bus will be - 1800 km

Which graph represents the piecewise-defined function?
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer: The correct option is 1.

Explanation:

The given piecewise function is,

y=\begin{cases}-\frac{4}{5}x-3 & \text{ if } x

It means if x<0, then

f(x)=-\frac{4}{5}x-3

If x\geq2, then

f(x)=3x-10

Since the f(x) is defined for x<0 and x\geq2, therefore the function f(x) is not defined for 0\leq x.

From the graph 2, 3 and 4 we can easily noticed that for each value of x there exist a unique value of y, therefore the function is defined for all values of x, which is not true according to the given piecewise function.

Only in figure the value of y not exist when x lies between 0 to 2, including 0. It means the function is not defined for 0\leq x, hence the first option is correct.

an original piece of art work is 3 feet by 2.5 feet. a reprint of the artwork is 6 inches by 5 inches. are the pieces similar? i
RoseWind [281]
For this case we observe that the dimensions of the original piece are:
 3 feet
 2.5 feet
 Let's multiply these dimensions by a scale factor k:
 3 * k
 2.5 * k
 We match the new dimensions with their respective values:
 3 * k = 6
 2.5 * k = 5
 Clearing k we have:
 k = 6/3 = 2
 k = 5 / 2.5 = 2
 Since the value of k is the same, then the pieces are similar.
 Answer:

The pieces are similar.

The ratio of their corresponding side lengths is:

k = 2

If a watch store paid $125 per watch for a shipment of watches, and sold all but 15 watches from the shipment for $150 per watch
yan [13]

Answer: C) P(y) = 150(y – 15) – 125y

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to write an equation:

Profit = revenue - cost

Cost: a watch store paid $125 per watch for a shipment of watches

Cost = 125 y

Where y is the number of watches in the shipment

Revenue: sold all but 15 watches from the shipment for $150 per watch

Revenue = 150(y-15)

Profit(y) = 150(y – 15) – 125y

So, the correct option is:

C) P(y) = 150(y – 15) – 125y

Which shows one way to determine the factors of 12x3 – 2x2 + 18x – 3 by grouping?
Debora [2.8K]

Option A

2x^2(6x-1) + 3(6x-1) is one way to determine the factors of 12x^3-2x^2+18x-3 by grouping

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Factoring by grouping means that you will group terms with common factors before factoring

<em><u>Given expression is:</u></em>

12x^3-2x^2+18x-3

Group the first two terms together and then the last two terms together.

(12x^3-2x^2)+(18x-3)

We can see that 2x^2 is common in first two terms

And 3 is common in last two terms

Factor them out

(12x^3-2x^2)+(18x-3) = 2x^2(6x-1) + 3(6x-1)

2x^2(6x-1) + 3(6x-1)

Thus option A is correct
