Answer and Explanation:

The balanced equation for the dissociation of H₂AsO₄⁻ in water (aqueous medium= aq) is the following:

H₂AsO₄⁻ (aq) ⇆ H⁺(aq) + HAsO₄²⁻(aq)

The monovalent anion H₂AsO₄⁻ loses a proton (H⁺) and forms the divalent anion HAsO₄²⁻.

The equilibrium constant Ka is calculated is given by the relation between the concentrations of products and reactants as follows:

Ka= \frac{(H^{+}) . (HAsO_{4}^{2-})   }{(H_{2}AsO_{4}^{-})   }

Insoluble sulfide compounds are generally black in color. Which of the following combinations could yield a black precipitate? C
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Answer:

Li₂S(aq) + Pb(NO₃)₂(aq)

2 K₂S(aq) + Sn(NO₃)₄(aq)

Explanation:

For these reactions, the products are:

1. Na₂S(aq) + 2 KCl(aq) → K₂S + 2 NaCl

2. Li₂S(aq) + Pb(NO₃)₂(aq) →  PbS + 2 Li(NO₃)

3. Pb(ClO₃)₂(aq) + 2 NaNO₃(aq) → Pb(NO₃)₂ + 2 Na(ClO₃)

4. AgNO₃(aq) + KCl(aq) → AgCl + KNO₃

5. 2 K₂S(aq) + Sn(NO₃)₄(aq) → SnS₂ + 4 KNO₃

K₂S is a soluble sulfide that, in solid state, is white. As K has a low electronegativity, the relative polar bond K-S allows its dissolution in water.

PbS is a black and insoluble compound. As Pb electronegativity is higher than K electronegativity, The bond is less-polar and its dissolution will not be allowed.

For the third reaction, all nitrates are soluble and Na(ClO₃) is also a very soluble compound.

AgCl is an insoluble white compound.

As Sn electronegativity is high, the solubility of this compound is very low. Also, this compound is black!

Thus, combinations could yield a black precipitate are:

Li₂S(aq) + Pb(NO₃)₂(aq)

2 K₂S(aq) + Sn(NO₃)₄(aq)

I hope it helps!

What is the pH of a 0.75 M HNO3 solution
Sauron [17]
Hello!

The dissociation reaction of HNO₃ is the following:

HNO₃ → H⁺ + NO₃⁻

This is a strong acid, so the concentration of HNO₃ would be the same as the concentration of H⁺. The formula for pH is the following:

pH=-log([H_3O^{+}])=-log(0,75M)=0,12

So, the pH would be 0,12

Have a nice day!

A mixture of KCl and KNO3
Tems11 [23]
Answer is: <span>The percent of KCl in the mixture is closest to </span><span>a) 40%.
</span>
If we use 100 grams of mixture:
ω(K) = 44.20% ÷ 100% = 0.442.
m(K) = 0.442 · 100 g = 44.2 g.
n(K) = 44.2 g ÷ 39.1 g/mol.
n(K) = 1.13 mol.
n(KCl) + n(KNO₃) = n(K)
m(KCl) = x.
m(KNO₃) = y.
Two equtions:
1) x + y = 100 g.
2) m(KCl)/M(KCl) + m(KNO₃)/M(KNO₃) = 1.13 mol.
x/74.55 g/mol + y/101.1 g/mol = 1.13 mol.
From first equation find x = 100 - y and put in second equation:
(100 - y)/74.55 + y/101.1 = 1.13 /×101.1.
135.61 - 1.356y + y = 114.24.
0.356y = 22.37 g.
y = 62.83 g.
x = m(KCl) = 100 g - 62.83 g = 37.17 g.

Arranges the following molecules in order of increasing dipole moment: <br> H2O, H2S, H2Te, H2Se.
erastova [34]

Explanation:

Dipole moment is defined as the measurement of the separation of two opposite electrical charges.

H_{2}O is a bent shaped molecule with a dipole moment of 1.87.

H_{2}S is also a bent shaped molecule with a dipole moment of 1.10.

H_{2}Te is a also a bent shaped molecule and has a negligible dipole moment.

H_{2}Se has a dipole moment of 0.29.

Therefore, given molecules are arranged according to their increasing dipole moment as follows.

        H_{2}Te < H_{2}Se < H_{2}S < H_{2}O
