large cylindrical water tank is mounted on a platform with its central axis vertical. The water level is 3.75 m above the base o

f the tank, and base is 6.50 m above the ground. A small hole 2.22 mm in diameter has formed in the base of the tank. Both the hole and the top of the tank are open to the air. We can ignore air resistance and treat water as an ideal fluid with a density of 1000 kg/m3. How many cubic meters of water per second is this tank losing

Answer:

0.0000333 m³/s

Explanation:

using Bernoulli's equation

P1 + 1/2ρv1² + ρh1g = P2 + 1/2ρv2² + ρh2g

P1 = P2 both are atmospheric pressure; they cancel out

1/2ρv1² + ρh1g = 1/2ρv2² + ρh2g divide both side with ρ (rho)

1/2v1² + h1g = 1/2v2² +h2g

collect the like terms

h1g - h2g = 1/2v2² + 1/2v1²

multiply both side by 2 and take g out from the left equation

2g(h1 - h2) = v2² + v1² where v1 is approximately 0 assuming the surface of the tank is large

v2² = 2g(h1 - h2)

take square root of both sides

v2 = √2g(h1 - h2)

h1 = 3.75 + 6.5 = 10.25

h2 = 6.5

v2 = √2g(h1 - h2) = √ (2×9.81× (10.25 - 6.5)) = 8.6 m/s

Volume in m³/s = A × v where A is the area of the hole and the radius of the hole = 2.22 mm / 2 (where 2.22 mm is the diameter of the hole) = 1.11 mm and 1.11mm / 1000 to convert it to meters

Area of the hole ( assuming it is a circle) = πr² = 3.142× (1.11/1000)²

Area = 0.00000387 m²

Volume in M³/s = 0.00000387 × 8.6 = 0.0000333 m³/s

A typical human contains 5.00 l of blood, and it takes 1.00 min for all of it to pass through the heart when the person is resti
Mrrafil [7]
(a) 0.0676 l (b) 67.6 cc So we've been told that 5.00 L of blood flows through the heart every minute and that the heart beats 74.0 times per minute. So that means that for every beat of the heart, 5.00 L / 74.0 = 0.067567568 L of blood flows through the heart. Rounding to 3 significant figures gives 0.0676 l. Converting from liters to cubic centimeters simply require a multiplication by 1000, so we have 67.6 cc of blood pumped per beat.

A particular material has an index of refraction of 1.25. What percent of the speed of light in a vacuum is the speed of light i
beks73 [17]

Answer:

80% (Eighty percent)

Explanation:

The material has a refractive index (n) of 1.25

Speed of light in a vacuum (c) is 2.99792458 x 10⁸  m/s

We can find the speed of light in the material (v) using the relationship

n = c/v, similarly

v = c/n

therefore v = 2.99792458 x 10⁸  m/s ÷ (1.25) = 239 833 966 m/s

v = 239 833 966 m/s

Therefore the percentage of the speed of light in a vacuum that is the speed of light in the material can be calculated as

(v/c) × 100 = (1/n) × 100 = (1/1.25) × 100 = 0.8 × 100 = 80%

Therefore speed of light in the material (v) is eighty percent of the speed of light in the vacuum (c)

Nuclear waste disposal is one of the largest issues with nuclear power. Cesium-137 is one of the high level waste products in an
vodomira [7]

Answer:

A sample of 5.2 mg decays to .65 mg or to 1/8 of its original amount.

1/8 = 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 or 3 half-lives.

3 * 30.07 = 90 yrs for 5.2 mg to decay to .65 mg

You can get these other numbers similarly:

5.2 / .0102 = 510  requires about 9  half-lives which is 30 * 9 = 270 yrs

makvit [3.9K]

Answer:

Wave W is a sound wave, Waves X and Y are light waves, and it is impossible to tell what kind of wave Wave Z is.

Explanation:

W      travels fastest through metal

X       travels fastest through air,

Y travels more slowly through water than air

Z travels more slowly at cool temperatures

W appears to be sound wave as sound travels fastest through metal .

X appears to be light wave as light travels fastest in air .

Y also appears to be light wave as speed of light is reduced when it passes from air to water .

Z It is impossible to tell anything about the nature of Z wave .
