A 20.0-mL sample of 0.30 M HClO was titrated with 0.30 M NaOH. The following data were collected during the titration. Determine

Ka for HClO. Data Provided: mL NaOH added pH 5.00 6.98 10.00 7.46 15.00 7.93 20.00 10.31 (Hint: Find the volume of NaOH at equivalence point)

Answer:

K_a=3.46 \times 10^{-8}.

Explanation:

We know at equivalent point,

M_1V_1=M_2V_2\\M_{acid}V_{acid}=M_{base}V_{base}\\0.30 \times20=0.30 \times V_{base}\\V_{base}=20 ml.

So, equivalent point is obtained at 20 ml.

Therefore, half equivalent point is obtained at 10 ml.

Also , at 10 ml NaOH , pH= 7.46 .

We know,

pH=pK_a

Also, pK_a=-\ln K_a

Taking anti log both sides .

We get K_a=3.46 \times 10^{-8}.

Hence, it is the required question.

One liter of ocean water contains 35.06 g of salt. What volume of ocean water would contain 1.00 kg of salt? Express your answer
sweet [91]

Answer:

28.52 L

Explanation:

First, let's calculate the density of the ocean, which is the mass divided by the volume:

d = m/V

d = 35.06/1

d = 35.06 g/L

So, for a mass of 1.00 kg = 1000.00 g

d = m/V

35.06 = 1000.00/V

V = 1000.00/35.06

V = 28.52 L

How all the data are expressed with two significant figures, the volume must also be expressed with two.

What is the oxidation state of selenium in SeO3?
ra1l [238]

Answer: The oxidation state of selenium in SeO3 is +6

Explanation:

SeO3 is the chemical formula for selenium trioxide.

- The oxidation state of SeO3 = 0 (since it is stable and with no charge)

- the oxidation number of oxygen (O) IN SeO3 is -2

- the oxidation state of selenium in SeO3 = Z (let unknown value be Z)

Hence, SeO3 = 0

Z + (-2 x 3) = 0

Z + (-6) = 0

Z - 6 = 0

Z = 0 + 6

Z = +6

Thus, the oxidation state of selenium in SeO3 is +6

Copper conducts electricity, while sugar, C6H12O6, does not. Can you explain why this is so in terms of structure and/or bond ty
mylen [45]
Sugar is formed through covalent bonds since there are no metal ions for the conduction of electricty. There are also no delocalized electrons within sugar that allow for the flow of electricty
