Answer:

pH = 1.98

Explanation:

Given a general acid dissociation:

HA + H₂O  ⇆  H₃O⁺   + A⁻

The pH is -log[ H₃O⁺ ]

Therefore we need to determine [ H₃O⁺ ] to answer this question, and we should use the data of % dissociation of the acid.

Percent dissociation is

% dissociation = [ H₃O⁺ ] / [ HA ]₀ x 100

where [ HA ]₀  is the original acid concentration, so we can calculate [ H₃O⁺ ] , and then the pH.

12 =  [ H₃O⁺ ] /0.089 M ⇒  [ H₃O⁺ ]  = (12 x 0.089 /100) M

                                                          = 1.07 x 10⁻² M

and pH = - log ( 1.07 x 10⁻² ) = 1.98

Describe how to use Le Chatelier’s principle to predict the possible ways a chemical system can respond to changes.
Andre45 [30]
Le Chatelier's principle simply explains how equilibria change as you change the conditions of a reaction. If you have a reaction that is at equilibrium lets say (A + 2B <--> C + D) by removing C or D we can drive the reaction forward and products more products. I can provide a more in-depth description if needed.

A laboratory manual gave precise instructions for carrying out the reaction described by the chemical equation, C2H6O + O2 C2H4O
Alexxandr [17]
C2H6O + O2 ---> C2H4O2 + H2O

using the molar masses:-
24+ 6 + 16 g of C2H6O  produces 24 + 4 + 32 g C2H4O2    (theoretical)
 46 g produces 60g

60 g C2H4O2 is produced from 46g C2H6O
1g      .     .................................46/60 g
 700g     .................................    (46/60) * 700  Theoretically

But as the yield is only 7.5%

the required amount is    ((46/60) * 700 ) / 0.075 =  7155.56 g

=  7.156 kg to nearest gram.  Answer

What is the emperical formula for a compound containing 68.3% lead, 10.6% sulfur, and the remainder oxygen? a. Pb2SO4 b. PbSO3 c
brilliants [131]

Answer:

Molecular formula → PbSO₄ → Lead sulfate

Option c.

Explanation:

The % percent composition indicates that in 100 g of compound we have:

68.3 g of Pb, 10.6 g of S and  (100 - 68.3 - 10.6) = 21.1 g of O

We divide each element by the molar mass:

68.3 g Pb / 207.2 g/mol = 0.329 moles Pb

10.6 g S / 32.06 g/mol = 0.331 moles S

21.1 g O / 16 g/mol = 1.32 moles O

We divide each mol by the lowest value to determine, the molecular formula

0.329 / 0.329 = 1 Pb

0.331 / 0.329 = 1 S

1.32 / 0.329 = 4 O

Molecular formula → PbSO₄ → Lead sulfate
