Answer :

Covalent compound : It is defined as the compound which is formed by the sharing of electrons between the atoms forming a compound.

The covalent compound are usually formed when two non-metals react.

Ionic compound : It is defined as the compound which is formed when electron gets transferred from one atom to another atom.

All the polyatomic ions always form an ionic compound.

Polyatomic ions : It is a charged species that composed of two or more atoms and these charged species are bonded by the covalent bond.

For the given options:

Option A: KClO_4

This compound is formed by the combination of potassium, K^+ which is a metal and ClO_4^- ion which is a polyatomic ion. Thus, it will form an ionic compound.

Option B: Mg(C_2H_3O_2)_2

This compound is formed by the combination of magnesium, Mg^{2+} which is a metal and C_2H_3O_2^{-} ion which is a polyatomic ion. Thus, it will form an ionic compound.

Option C: H_2S

Hydrogen and sulfur, both are non-metals and they will form a covalent compound.

Option D: Ag_2S

This compound is formed by the combination of silver, Ag^{+} which is a metal and sulfur, S^{2-} which is a non-metal. Thus, it will form an ionic compound.

Option E: N_2Cl_4

Nitrogen and chlorine, both are non-metals and they will form a covalent compound.

Option F: Co(NO_3)_2

This compound is formed by the combination of cobalt, Co^{2+} which is a metal and NO_3^{-} ion which is a polyatomic ion. Thus, it will form an ionic compound.

Formulating an Investigative Question In this experiment, you will use a track and a toy car to explore the concept of movement.
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

A scientific question to be asked is; What is the average speed of the toy car?

Explanation:

A scientific question is a question which is well defined, the values in the question can be measured, and the inputs and outputs related to the question are controllable

The parameters measured in the experiment are;

The time elapsed during the movement of the car, Δt

The distance the car moves, d

From the obtained measurements, the value can be calculated is the average speed of the toy car as follows;

The \ average \ speed \ of \ the \ toy \ car, \ v_{avg} = \dfrac{d}{\Delta t}

Therefore, a scientific question to be asked that will be answered by doing the experiment is; What is the average speed of the toy car?

In a certain experiment, 28.0 mL of 0.250 M HNO3and 53.0 mL of 0.320 M KOH are mixed. Calculate the number of moles of water for
Xelga [282]

Answer:

The number of moles of water formed in the resulting reaction is 6.03

[H+]: 37,2 M

[OH-]: 37,2 M

Explanation:

HNO3 + KOH ----> KNO3 + H2O

First, we must discover the limiting reagent and we need to find out the moles, we use for this.

Moles that are used = Molarity / volume

HNO3 : 0,250 mol/L / 0,028L = 8,93 moles

KOH : 0,320 mol/L / 0,053L = 6,03 moles

The ratio of the reagents by stoichiometry is 1 to 1, so the limiting reagent is KOH, if I need 1 mole of nitric per mole of KOH, for every 8.93 moles I will need the same. However I have only 6.03 moles of KOH

The ratio of the reagents/products by stoichiometry is 1 to 1 so if I need 1 mol of KOH to make 1 mol of Water, 6,03 moles of KOH are used to make 6,03 moles of H2O.

The equilibrium of water is this:

2H2O ⇄ H3O+ + OH-

2 moles of water are broken down into 1 mole of hydronium (H3O +) and 1 mole of hydroxyl (OH-)

6,03 moles of water are broken down into the half of those moles, so we have 3,015 moles of H3O+ and 3,015 moles of OH- but these moles are in 81,0 mL (the volume of the two solutions, 28 mL + 53 mL)

We must find out the moles in 1000 mL (1 L) so let's apply the rule of three.

81 mL ____ 3,015 moles

1000 mL ___ ( 1000 . 3,015) /81 = 37,2 M

How many atoms of nitrogen are in 1.2 grams of aspartame?
qaws [65]
The molecular formula for aspartame is C14H18N2O5, and its molar mass is about 294 g/mol.

Convert 1.2 g into moles, which gives

1.2 g / 294 g/mol = 4.08 X 10-3 moles aspartame.

Since each mole of aspartame has 2 moles of nitrogen, you have 8.16 X 10-3 moles of N in your 1.2 grams of aspartame.

Finally, multiply that by Avogadro's number to get the number of N atoms:

8.16 X 10^-3 mol X 6.02 X 10^23 = 4.9 X 10^21 nitrogen atoms.
