Answer:

a)Fluorine (F)

b) magnesium (Mg)

c) Zinc(Zn)

d) Selenium (Se)

e) Gallium

Explanation:

(a) 1s22s22p5 = F with 7 outermost electrons

(b) 1s22s22p63s2= Mg with two valence electrons

(c) 1s22s22p63s23p64s23d10= Zinc with 2 Valence electrons (d)

1s22s22p63s23p64s23d104p4 = Selenium with 6-Valence electrons

(e) 1s22s22p63s23p64s23d104p1 = Gallium with 3- valence electrons

Answer:

a. 1s² 2s² 2p5 → Fluorine

b. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² → Magnesium

c. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 → Zinc

d. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 4p4 → Selenium

e. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 4p1 → Gallium

Explanation:

The electronic configuration of element are represented base on their atomic number. The shells are s p d and f. The s shell can only accommodate 2 electrons , p shell can only accommodate 6 electrons , d can accommodate maximum of 10 electrons and f can accommodate maximum of 14 electrons.

The following configuration are

a. 1s² 2s² 2p5 → it has 9 electrons and 9 protons. The atomic number is 9 , therefore the element is Fluorine.

b. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² → Atomic number is 12 . The element is Magnesium.

c. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 → Atomic number is 30. The element is Zinc.

d. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 4p4 → Atomic number is 34 . The element is Selenium.

e. 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p6 4s² 3d10 4p1 → Atomic number is 31. The element is Gallium.

The lewis structure of each element is represented with dots around the symbol of the element. The number of dots is the number of valency electron.

The lewis structure is represented in picture below

Two atoms bonded together will remain some distance apart, minimizing the Question 1 options: A) potential energy of the bond. B
Taya2010 [7]

Answer:

1) potential energy of the bond.

2) Linear

3) The electrons are transferred from K to Cl.

4) ClF

5) Oxygen

6) Electrolysis

7) Double displacement

Explanation:

As two atoms approach each other in a bonding situation, the potential energy of the bond is minimized as the internuclear distance of the bonding atoms decreases.

BeH2 has two electron domains and the central beryllium atom is sp2 hybridized. According to valence shell electron pair repulsion theory. A molecule having two regions of electron density will lead to a linear molecule.

KCl is an ionic compound hence there is a transfer of electrons from K(metal) to Cl(nonmetal).

ClF has partial charges because it contains a polar covalent bond. The partial charges arise from the dipole within the molecule. LiF is a pure ionic compound formed by transfer of electrons from Li to F. The species possess full and not partial charges.

When an oxygen atom bonds with another oxygen atom, what has been formed is a homonuclear covalent bond. Since the electro negativity of the both atoms is exactly the same, a pure covalent bond is formed. Recall that polar covalent bonds are formed when there is a significant electro negativity difference between the bonding atoms.

When direct current is passed through certain salt solutions during electrolysis, gases may be evolved and collected at the appropriate electrodes.

A double-replacement reaction is a reaction in which the cations and anions present in two different ionic compounds that are reacting together exchange their positions to form two new compounds on the product side. For instance, look at the reaction shown in question 7 as a typical example of this;

AgNO3 (s) + NaCl (s) → AgCl (s) + NaNO3 (s).

A stack of 10 pennies weighing 26.55 grams is placed in a graduated cylinder containing water. The initial volume of water is 50
BigorU [14]
In order to determine the density of an item, we will need to determine its mass and volume. The standard unit for measuring mass in a lab is the gram. Think about liquids- what units do you typically report the volume of a liquid in? What about for a sugar cube, what volume is the most appropriate?
A regular object like a sugar cube can be measured with a ruler so we might report the volume in centimeters cubed (cm3). An irregular object like the plate pictured below can be measured by using a technique called volume by displacement. A liquid (typically water) is placed in a graduated cylinder and the volume of a liquid is measured. Then the irregular object is placed in the liquid and the volume is measured again. The change in volume is the irregular object’s volume. This measurement is often made using a graduated cylinder and recording a volume in Liters or milliliters (mL).

How many moles of sodium bicarbonate is needed to neutralize 0.8 ml of sulphuric acid?
svet-max [94.6K]

Answer:

n NaHCO3 = 9.6 E-3 mol

Explanation:

balanced reaction:

  • 2 NaHCO3(s) + H2SO4(ac) ↔ Na2SO4(ac) + 2 CO2(g) + 2 H2O(l)
  • assuming a concentration of H2SO4 6M....normally worked in the lab

⇒ n H2SO4 = 8 E-4 L * 6 mol/L = 4.8 E-3 mol H2SO4

according to balanced reaction, we have that for every mol of H2SO4 there are two mol of NaHCO3 ( sodium bicarbonate)

⇒ mol NaHCO3 = 4.8 E-3 mol H2SO4 * ( 2 mol NaHCO3 / mol H2SO4 )

⇒ ,mol NaHCO3 = 9.6 E-3 mol

So 9.6 E-3 mol NaHCO3,  are the minimun moles necessary to neutralize the acid.
