A 2 kg ball rolls off a 27 m high cliff, and lands 25 m from the base of the cliff. Express the displacement and the gravitation

al force in terms of vectors and calculate the work done by the gravitational force. Note that the gravitational force is < 0, -mg, 0 >, where g is a positive number ( 9.8 N/kg). (Let the origin be at the base of the cliff, with the x direction towards where the ball lands, and the y direction taken to be upwards.)

Answer:

r = < 10.6t, 27 – 4.9t², 0 >m

F < 0, -19.6, 0 > N

Explanation:

Given the mass of the ball

m = 2.0kg , g = 9.8m/s²

H = 27m Range = x = 25m

X = Xo + Vo×t×Cosθ

y = yo + Vo×t×Sinθ -1/2gt²

But θ = 0° the ball rolls off the cliff

y = 27 + Vot ×0 – 1/2gt²

y = 27–1/2gt²

X = Xo + Vo×t×Cos0°

X = Xo + Vot

Taking the base of the cliff as Xo = 0m

X = 0 + Vot =Vot

We need to calculate the velocity Vo the initial velocity in order to find expressions for the displacement along the given axes and to do this we need to know how long this motion lasted for, t.

So to calculate t, we need to find the time the stone strikes the ground. y = 0m

So,

0 = 27 – 1/2gt²

1/2gt² = 27

t² = 27×2/g = 54/9.8

t² = 5.51

t = 2.35s

The ball travels a horizontal distance of 25m from the base of the cliff. So

X = 25 = Vo ×2.35

Vo = 25/2.35 = 10.6m/s

X = 10.6t (substituting for Vo)

y = 27 – 1/2×9.8t² = 27 – 4.9t²

Fy = -mg = -2×9.8 = ‐19.6N

So the expression for the displacement

r = < 10.6t, 27 – 4.9t², 0 >m

F < 0, -19.6, 0 > N

The drag force F on a boat varies jointly with the wet surface area A of the boat and the square of the speed s of the boat. A b
Advocard [28]

Answer:

Wet surfaces areaA=+25.3ft^2

Explanation:

Using F= K×A× S^2

Where F= drag force

A= surface area

S= speed

Given : F=996N S=20mph A= 83ft^2

K = F/AS^2=996/(83×20^2)

K= 996/33200 = 0.03

1215= (0.03)× A × 18^2

1215=9.7A

A=1215/9.7=125.3ft^2

A uniform sphere with mass M and radius R is rotating with angular speed ω1 about a frictionless axle along a diameter of the sp
liq [111]

Answer:

W_2=\sqrt{\frac{3}{5} }W_1

Explanation:

For the first ball, the moment of inertia and the kinetic energy is:

I_1 =\frac{2}{5}MR^2

K_1 = \frac{1}{2}IW_1^2

So, replacing, we get that:

K_1 = \frac{1}{2}(\frac{2}{5}MR^2)W_1^2

At the same way, the moment of inertia and kinetic energy for second ball is:

I_2 =\frac{2}{3}MR^2

K_2 = \frac{1}{2}IW_2^2

So:

K_2 = \frac{1}{2}(\frac{2}{3}MR^2)W_2^2

Then, K_2 is equal to K_1, so:

K_2 = K_1

\frac{1}{2}(\frac{2}{3}MR^2)W_2^2 = \frac{1}{2}(\frac{2}{5}MR^2)W_1^2

\frac{1}{3}MR^2W_2^2 = \frac{1}{5}MR^2W_1^2

\frac{1}{3}W_2^2 = \frac{1}{5}W_1^2

Finally, solving for W_2, we get:

W_2=\sqrt{\frac{3}{5} }W_1

Determine whether each substance will sink or float in corn syrup, which has a density of 1.36 g/cm3. Write “sink” or “float” in
Tatiana [17]

Explanation:

  • A substance will floats if it is having lower density than the density of the liquid in which it is placed.
  • A substance will sink if it is having density greater than the density of the liquid in which it is kept.

Density of corn syrup = 1.36 g/cm^3

1) Density of gasoline = 0.748 g/cm^3

Density of the gasoline is less than the the density of corn syrup which means it will float in corn syrup.

2) Density of water = 1 g/cm^3

Density of the water is less than the the density of corn syrup which means it will float in corn syrup.

3) Density of honey = 1.45 g/cm^3

Density of the gasoline is more than the the density of corn syrup which means it will sink in corn syrup.

4) Density of titanium = 4.506 g/cm^3

Density of the titanium is more than the the density of corn syrup which means it will sink in corn syrup.
