An air conditioner is a refrigerator with the inside of the house acting as the cold reservoir and the outside atmosphere acting

as the hot reservoir. Assume that an air conditioner consumes 1.25 * 103 W of electrical power and that it can be idealized as a reversible Carnot refrigerator. If the coefficient of performance of this device is 1.75, how much heat can be extracted from the house in a day

Answer:

1.89*10^8 J

Explanation:

The coefficient of performance of this device is \frac{Q}{W} where Q .is the useful heat supplied or removed by the considered system and W is the work required by the considered system.

Step 1

Coeffiecient of perfromance for cooling (COPC) = 1.75 = \frac{Q}{W} .

                                                     Q = 1.75W

Step 2

We convert day into seconds:

1 day = 24 hrs = 86400 seconds

Step 3

Heat that can be extracted from the house in a day is:

Q = 1.75 * 1.25 * 10^3 * 86400 =  189000000 = 1.89*10^8 J

A book rests on the shelf of a bookcase. The reaction force to the force of gravity acting on the book is 1. The force of the sh
Hoochie [10]

Answer:

1. The force of the shelf holding the book up.

Explanation:

The free body diagram of the book is as follows:

1 - The weight of the book towards downwards

2 - The normal force that the shelf exerts on the book towards upwards.

Since the book is at rest, these two forces are equal to each other and according to Newton's Third Law the reaction force to the force of gravity is equal but opposite to the weight of the book. This reaction force is the one that holds the book up on the shelf.

The process of changing a property of a wave to transmit information is called .
BARSIC [14]

Answer : The process of changing a property of a wave to transmit information is called Modulation.

Explanation :

Modulation is the process of changing the property of wave to transmit information. This is done with the help of modulator.

In modulation, the message signal is superimposed on a high frequency signal. A sine wave ( usually high frequency ) is used as a high frequency carrier wave.

Modulation can be done in many ways like :

(1) Frequency modulation

(2) Amplitude modulation

(3) Pulse modulation

There are devices to put in a light socket that control the current through a lightbulb, thereby increasing its lifetime. Which
Dmitrij [34]

Answer: B

Explanation:

Limiting the maximum current through the bulb. This will help in preserving or improving the bulb's lifetime and also this won't have an effect on the brightness of the bulb as brightness is affected by the average value. Although brightness is a factor of current, reducing the maximum current won't have any bearing on the average current the bulb is getting.

before colliding, the momentum of block A is +15.0 kg m/s. after, block A has a momentum -12.0 kg*m/s. what is the momentum of b
Helen [10]

Answer:

The momentum of block B = 27 Kg m/s

Explanation:

Given,

The initial momentum of block A, MU = 15 Kg m/s

The final momentum of block A, MV = -12 Kg m/s

Consider the block B is initially at rest.

Therefore, the initial momentum of block B, mu = 0

According to the laws of conservation of linear momentum, the momentum of the body before impact is equal to the momentum of the body after impact.

                                MU + mu = MV + mv

                                15  +  (0) = (-12) + mv

                                         mv = 15 + 12

                                              =  27 Kg m/s

Hence, the momentum of the block B after impact is, mv = 27 Kg m/s
