0. Determine expressions for the following in terms of m, v0, h, and g. Air resistance is negligibly small.
(a) W is the amount work done by the force of gravity on the projectile during its flight.
(b) ΔKE is the change in kinetic energy ΔKE of the projectile from the time it was fired until it hits the water.
(c) KEf is the final kinetic energy KEf of the projectile as it hits the water.

Answer:

(a)

F=mgh

(b)

\triangle KE=0.5m(v_f^{2}-v_o^{2})

(c)

KE_f=0.5mv_f^{2}

Explanation:

(a)

Work done by gravity is given as the product of force and perpendicular distance hence

W=Fh

Where F is force and h is perpendicular height.

Since force due to gravity is a product of mass and acceleration due to gravity, ie F=gm then substituting this back into the original formula, we obtain

F=mgh

(b)

Kinetic energy, KE is given by

0.5mv^{2}

where m is the mass of an object and v is the velocity. Taking final velocitu as vf while initial velocity as given vo then change in kinetic energy is given by the difference between final and initial kinetic energy

Intial kinetic energy is KE_o=0.5mv_o^{2}

Final kinetic energy is

KE_f=0.5mv_f^{2}

Change in kinetic energy is given as

\triangle KE=KE_f-KE_o

\triangle KE=0.5m(v_f^{2}-v_o^{2})

(c)

As already derived in part b above, the final kinetic energy is equivalent to Final kinetic energy is KE_f=0.5mv_f^{2}

Ber [7]

Answer:

4.41 × 10¹² J, 2.72 × 10³ m³, 0.907 × 10 ⁻³ m

Explanation:

Gravitational potential energy = mgh

where m is mass in kg, g is acceleration due to gravity in m/s², and h is the distance from the base of the dam.

mass of the surface water = density of water × volume of water × 1 m = 1000 kg / m³ × 3.0 × 10⁶ m² × 1 m = 3 × 10⁹ kg

Gravitational potential energy = 3 × 10⁹ kg × 9.81 m/s² × 150 m = 4.41 × 10¹² J

b)what volume of water must pass through the dam to produce 1000 kw-hrs

1 000 kw-hr = 3.6 × 10 ⁹ J

the dam has mechanical energy conversion of 90% to electrical energy

Gravitational potential energy needed = 3.6 × 10 ⁹ J / 0.9 = 4 × 10⁹ J

mass of water needed = Energy required / g h = 4 × 10⁹ J / (9.81 m/s² × 150 m) = 2.718 × 10 ⁶ kg

density = mass / volume

volume = mass / density = 2.718 × 10 ⁶ kg / (1000 kg/ m³) = 2.72 × 10³ m³

the distance the level of the water in the lake fell = volume / area = 2.72 × 10³ m³ / (3.0×10⁶ m²) = 0.907 × 10 ⁻³ m

What is the approximate pressure of a storage cylinder of recovered r-410a that does not contain any non-condensable impurities
Aliun [14]

Answer:

173psig

Explanation:

The storage cylinder of recovered R-410A is mixture of difluoromethane and pentafluoroethane which is used as a refrigerant in air conditioning application. The refrigeration sector has low temperatures for installation. The pressure of cylinder at 80 F will be 173 psig. The pure refrigerants have inside a container have saturation temperature which is equal to ambient temperature.

Which statement about electrons and atomic orbitals is NOT true?
balandron [24]

An electron has the same amount of energy in all orbitals is not true

\boxed{\boxed{\bold{Further~explanation}}}

In an atom there are levels of energy in the skin and sub skin.

 • This energy level is expressed in the form of electron configurations.

Writing electron configurations starts from the lowest to the highest sub-shell energy level.

So electrons that occupy the orbitals in the lowest sub-skin have the lowest energy level

 • In the principle of Pauli's prohibition it was stated that there are no two electrons in one atom that can have the same four quantum numbers.

So suppose that there are two electrons occupying one orbital can have the same main quantum number (n), azimuth (l) and magnetic (m), then the last quantum number that is the quantum spin number (s) must be different.

So that the two electrons are different from just the quantum spin number, even though the other quantum numbers are the same.

So in one orbital only a maximum of 2 electrons is occupied, because if there is a third electron, this third electron will have the same quantum spin number as the previous electron

 • The electron cloud is a visual representation of the location of electrons in an atom.

Orbital is the place around the nucleus where electrons may be found

Electron clouds show the state of electrons in their orbitals

So electron clouds can show the condition of all orbitals in an atom

The lowest energy level of an electron occupies a sub-skin of 1s which has only one orbital

Charging electrons in the sub skin uses the following sequence:

1s², 2s², 2p⁶, 3s², 3p⁶, 4s², 3d¹⁰, 4p⁶, 5s², 4d¹⁰, 5p⁶, 6s², etc.

Statement about electrons and atomic orbitals is not true is An electron has the same amount of energy in all orbitals

A student states that 203.9 g of table sugar will form a saturated solution in 100 g of water.
riadik2000 [5.3K]

The temperature and the solubility of sugar at that temperature

Explanation:

The amount of substance which can be dissolved in the solvent depends on the temperature.

As the temperature increases, more substance can be dissolved.

A solution is saturated if any more of the solute cannot be dissolved in the solution at the given temperature

Hence we need to know the temperature and also the amount of substance which can be dissolved(solubility) at the same temperature

a) the statement given in option A is correct

b) molar mass has no correlation with the substance's solubility and hence option b is not correct

c) The percent by volume of the solution is not needed to find if the solution is saturated and hence option c is not correct

A rigid tank contains nitrogen gas at 227 °C and 100 kPa gage. The gas is heated until the gage pressure reads 250 kPa. If the a
aleksley [76]

Answer:

T₂ =602 °C

Explanation:

Given that

T₁ = 227°C =227+273 K

T₁ =500 k

Gauge pressure at condition 1 given = 100 KPa

The absolute pressure at condition 1 will be

P₁ = 100 + 100 KPa

P₁ =200 KPa

Gauge pressure at condition 2 given = 250 KPa

The absolute pressure at condition 2 will be

P₂ = 250 + 100 KPa

P₂ =350 KPa

The temperature at condition 2 = T₂

We know that

\dfrac{T_2}{T_1}=\dfrac{P_2}{P_1}\\T_2=T_1\times \dfrac{P_2}{P_1}\\T_2=500\times \dfrac{350}{200}\ K\\

T₂ = 875 K

T₂ =875- 273 °C

T₂ =602 °C
