Answer:

24cm from the surface

Explanation:

Equation for refraction

n2/v- n1/u = n2-n1/R

= u = infinity ( parallel)

2/v= (2-1)/R

V = 2R

V= 24cm

Two uniform, solid cylinders of radius R and total mass M are connected along their common axis by a short, light rod and rest o
sveta [45]

Explanation:

A) To prove the motion of the center of mass of the cylinders is simple harmonic:

System diagram for given situation is shown in attached Fig. 1

We can prove the motion of the center of mass of the cylinders is simple harmonic if

a_{x} = -\omega^{2}  x

where aₓ is acceleration when attached cylinders move in horizontal direction:

<h3>PROOF:</h3>

rotational inertia for cylinders  is given as:

                                  I=\frac{1}{2}MR^{2} -----(1)

Newton's second law for angular motion is:

                                             ∑τ = Iα ------(2)

For linear motion in horizontal direction it is:

                                             ∑Fₓ = Maₓ ------ (3)

By definition of torque:

                                               τ  = RF --------(4)

Put (4) and (1) in (2)

                                       RF=\frac{1}{2}MR^{2}\alpha

                                       RF=\frac{1}{2}MR^{2}\alpha

from Fig 3 it can be seen that fs is force by which the cylinders roll without slipping as they oscillate

So above equation becomes

                                   f_{s}=\frac{1}{2}MR\alpha------ (5)

As angular acceleration is related to linear by:

                                          a= R\alpha

Eq (5) becomes

                                    f_{s}=\frac{1}{2}Ma_{x}---- (6)

aₓ shows displacement in horizontal direction

From (3)

                                              ∑Fₓ = Maₓ

Fₓ is sum of fs and restoring force that spring exerts:

                                  \sum F_{x} = f_{s} - kx ----(7)

Put (7) in (3)

                                  f_{s} - kx  = Ma_{x}[/tex] -----(8)

Using (6) in (8)

                               \frac{1}{2}Ma_{x} - kx =Ma_{x}

                                     a_{x} = \frac{2k}{3M} x --- (9)

For spring mass system

                                  a= -\omega^{2} x ----- (10)

Equating (9) and (10)

                                  \omega^{2} = \frac{2k}{3M}

\omega = \sqrt{ \frac{2k}{3M}}

then (9) becomes

                                a_{x} = - \omega^{2}x

(The minus sign says that x and  aₓ  have opposite directions as shown in fig 3)

This proves that the motion of the center of mass of the cylinders is simple harmonic.

<h3 /><h3>B) Time Period</h3>

Time period is related to angular frequency as:

                                   T=\frac{2\pi }{\omega}

                                  T = 2\pi \sqrt{\frac{3M}{2k}

A 1.0 104 kg spacecraft is traveling through space with a speed of 1200 m/s relative to Earth. A thruster fires for 2.0 min, exe
aniked [119]
We are given information:
m=1.0* 10^{4} kg \\ v=1200m/s \\ t=2min=120s \\ F = 25kN = 25000N

If we apply Newton's second law we can calculate acceleration:
F = m * a
a = F / m
a = 25000 / 10000
a = 2.5 m/s^2

Now we can use this information to calculate change of speed.
a = v / t
v = a * t
v = 2.5 * 120
v = 300 m/s

Force is being applied in direction that is opposite to a direction in which space craft is moving. This means that final speed will be reduced.
v = 1200 - 300
v = 900 m/s

Formula for momentum is:
p = m * v
Initial momentum:
p = 10000 * 1200
p = 12 000 000
p = 12 *10^6 kg*m/s
Final momentum:
p = 10000 * 900
p = 9 000 000
p = 9 *10^6 kg*m/s

Lera25 [3.4K]

Answer:

a. directive zoning

Explanation:

Directive zoning is an instrument used in master plans, whereby the city is divided into areas on which differentiated land use and land use guidelines apply, especially urban indexes. Directive zoning acts primarily by controlling two main elements: the use and size (or size) of lots and buildings. It is therefore assumed that the end result achieved through individual actions is in line with the municipality's objectives, which include proportionality between occupation and infrastructure, the need to protect fragile areas and / or cultural interest, the harmony from the volumetric point of view, etc.

A 3 kg rubber block is resting on wet concrete. The coefficient of static friction is 0.3. What is the minimum force that must b
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer:

You would have to find the friction force of the rubber block which would be found with the equation of Normal force (mass*gravity) times cooeficient of friction which would give 8.82 N for the amount of friction and because you need more force than 8.82 N (assuming gravity is 9.8)

hockey puck slides across the ice with an initial velocity of 7.2 m/s. It has a deceleration of 1.1 m/s2 and is traveling toward
dimulka [17.4K]

For this use the formula:

d = Vo * t - (at^2) / 2

Clearing t:

t = d/(v + 0.5*a)

Replacing:

t = 5 m / (7.2 m/s + 0.5 * (-1.1 m/s²)

Resolving:

t = 5 m / (7.2 m/s + (-0.55 m/s²)

t = 5 m / 6.65 m/s

t = 0.75 s

Result:

The time will be <u>0.75 seconds.</u>
