A bar magnet is dropped from above and falls through the loop of wire. The north pole of the bar magnet points downward towards

the page as it falls. Which statement is correct?a. The current in the loop always flows in a clockwise direction. b·The current in the loop always flows in a counterclockwise direction. c. The current in the loop flows first in a clockwise, then in a counterclockwise direction. d. The current in the loop flows first in a counterclockwise, then in a clockwise direction. e. Answer:

<em>b. The current in the loop always flows in a counterclockwise direction.</em>

<em></em>

Explanation:

When a magnet falls through a loop of wire, it induces an induced current on the loop of wire. This induced current is due to the motion of the magnet through the loop, which cause a change in the flux linkage of the magnet. According to Lenz law, the induced current acts in such a way as to repel the force or action that produces it. For this magnet, the only opposition possible is to stop its fall by inducing a like pole on the wire loop to repel its motion down. An induced current that flows counterclockwise in the wire loop has a polarity that is equivalent to a north pole on a magnet, and this will try to repel the motion of the magnet through the coil. Also, when the magnet goes pass the wire loop, this induced north pole will try to attract the south end of the magnet, all in a bid to stop its motion downwards.

A block moves at 5 m/s in the positive x direction and hits an identical block, initially at rest. A small amount of gunpowder h
Anestetic [448]

Answer:

Speed of 1.83 m/s and 6.83 m/s

Explanation:

From the principle of conservation of momentum

mv_o=m(v_1 + v_2) where m is the mass, v_o is the initial speed before impact, v_1 and v_2 are velocity of the impacting object after collision and velocity after impact of the originally constant object

5m=m(v_1 +v_2)

Therefore v_1+v_2=5

After collision, kinetic energy doubles hence

2m*(0.5mv_o)=0.5m(v_1^{2}+v_2^{2})

2v_o^{2}=v_1^{2} + v_2^{2}

Substituting 5 m/s for v_o then

2*(5^{2})= v_1^{2} + v_2^{2}

50= v_1^{2} + v_2^{2}

Also, it’s known that v_1+v_2=5 hence v_1=5-v_2

50=(5-v_2)^{2}+ v_2^{2}

50=25+v_2^{2}-10v_2+v_2^{2}

2v_2^{2}-10v_2-25=0

Solving the equation using quadratic formula where a=2, b=-10 and c=-25 then v_2=6.83 m/s

Substituting, v_1=-1.83 m/s

Therefore, the blocks move at a speed of 1.83 m/s and 6.83 m/s

A spring-powered dart gun is unstretched and has a spring constant 16.0 N/m. The spring is compressed by 8.0 cm and a 5.0 gram p
stepladder [879]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

Spring constant = 16N/m

Extension of spring

x = 8cm = 0.08m

Mass

m = 5g =5/1000 = 0.005 kg

The ball will leave with a speed that makes its kinetic energy equal to the potential energy of the compressed spring.

So, Using conservation of energy

Energy in spring is converted to kinectic energy

So, Ux = K.E

Ux = ½ kx²

Then,

Ux = ½ × 16 × 0.08m²

Ux = 0.64 J

Since, K.E = Ux

K.E = 0.64 J

The eyes of many older people have lost the ability to accommodate, and so an older person’s near point may be more than 25 cm f
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]

Answer:

Smaller refractive power

Explanation:

The refractive power of an eye is the extent to which it can converge or diverge the light rays.

Near point is the the closest point for an eye such that when an object is placed at that point the image it forms is sharp and clearly visible to the eye.

A the person ages, the ciliary muscles of the eyes weakens and as a result the lens contracts and the formation of the image takes place behind the retina instead of forming at the retina.

Thus the near point also increases and the refractive power becomes smaller.

Pamela drove her car 999999 kilometers and used 999 liters of fuel. she wants to know how many kilometers (k)(k)left parenthesis
Vanyuwa [196]
When the relationship between two variables are said to be proportional, it means that one variable is a constant multiple of the other variable. They are related by a constant of proportionality, usually denoted as k.

In this problem, the dependent variable is the distance in kilometers. Your mileage is limited with the amount of fuel you have. Thus, the independent variable is the liters of fuel. When these two are proportional, it could be expressed as

distance = k * liters of fuel, such that
distance/liters of fuel = k

By variation,

distance,1/liters of fuel,1 = distance,2/liters of fuel,2, where 1 denotes situation 1 and 2 denotes situation 2. Therefore,

 999999 km /<span>999 liters =  x km /</span><span>121212 liters, where x is the unknown distance. We can now therefore find the value of x.

x = (999999*121212)/999
x = 121333212 kilometers</span>

An LR circuit contains an ideal 60-V battery, a 42-H inductor having no resistance, a 24-ΩΩ resistor, and a switch S, all in ser
s2008m [1.1K]

Answer:

1.6 s

Explanation:

To find the time in which the potential difference of the inductor reaches 24V you use the following formula:

V_L=V_oe^{-\frac{Rt}{L}}

V_o: initial voltage = 60V

R: resistance = 24-Ω

L: inductance = 42H

V_L: final voltage = 24 V

You first use properties of the logarithms to get time t, next, replace the values of the parameter:

\frac{V_L}{V_o}=e^{-\frac{Rt}{L}}\\\\ln(\frac{V_L}{V_o})=-\frac{Rt}{L}\\\\t=-\frac{L}{R}ln(\frac{V_L}{V_o})\\\\t=-\frac{42H}{24\Omega}ln(\frac{24V}{60V})=1.6s

hence, after 1.6s the inductor will have a potential difference of 24V
