A bottle of a certain type of salad dressing can be considered to be a mixture of olive oil and vinegar. The oil has a density o

f 0.92 g/cm3 and the vinegar has a density of 1.01 g/cm3 . If an unopened and unshaken bottle of dressing contains 3 in. of oil on top of 5 in. of vinegar, find the pressure distribution in the salad dressing bottle before it is shaken. What is the pressure distribution after the bottle is shaken?

Answer:

1.) 183.21 Pascal, 125.7 Pascal

2.) 192.17 Pascal

Explanation:

Given that the oil has a density of 0.92 g/cm3 and the vinegar has a density of 1.01 g/cm3 .

If an unopened and unshaken bottle of dressing contains 3 in. of oil on top of 5 in. of vinegar, convert the inches to cm

1 inch = 2.54 cm

3 inches = 2.54 × 3 = 7.62 cm

5 inches = 2.54 × 5 = 12.7 cm

For oil:

P = dgh

Where

P = pressure

d = density

g = acceleration due to gravity

h = height

P = 0.92 × 9.8 × (7.62 + 12.7)

P = 0.92 × 9.8 × 20.32

P = 183.21 Pascal

For vinegar:

P = 1.01 × 9.8 × 12.7

P = 125.7 Pascal

The pressure distribution after the bottle is shaken will be

P = (1.01 + 0.92)/2 × 9.8 × 20.32

P = 0.965 × 9.8 × 20.32

P = 192.17 Pascal

A swimmer does 3,560 J of work in 55 s. What is the swimmer’s power output? Round your answer to two significant figures. The po
Natasha2012 [34]
The value of the swimmer's power output is calculated by dividing the work done by the time it took for the work to be completed. From the given in this item,
                              P = 3560 J/ 55 s = 64.73 W
Rounding off to two significant figures will give us 65 W.

This table shows Wayne’s weight on four different planets. Planet Wayne’s weight (pounds) Mars 53 Neptune 159 Venus 128 Jupiter
oee [108]
The correct order is (in decreasing order of gravity strength)
Jupiter - Neptune - Venus - Mars

In fact, Wayne's weight on each planet is given by
W=mg
where m is Wayne's mass, which is a constant value, and g is the gravity strength at the surface of the planet. Therefore, the Wayne's weight W on each planet is directly proportional to the gravity strength of that planet: so the planet with the strongest gravity is the one where Wayne's weight is the greatest (Jupiter, 333 pounds), followed by Neptune (159),  Venus (128) and Mars (53).

Whipple is confused about the connection between the velocity and acceleration of the tennis ball. he decides to compare the vel
tamaranim1 [39]

The speed of the ball is always zero and the acceleration is always -g when it reaches the top of its motion. This is because when the ball is free, only gravity acts on it which is always downwards, hence g is the net acceleration and it is always negative. However the velocity does not direction change instantly, negative acceleration first slows down the ball with a positive velocity, until that point the ball keeps moving up, then the ball velocity becomes zero just before changing direction and becoming negative after which the ball will now go down along gravity. Hence the ball velocity is zero at the top (neither going up nor down). Mathematically this can be seen as velocity is the integration of acceleration.
