First, you would need to get fabric A (the original fabric), and fabric B (the competitor). You will need the following to remain constant:

-  2 fabrics (fabric A and B need to remain the same piece of fabric throughout the ezpierement)

- How dry the fabrics are at the begining of each test

- The amount of water poured on the fabrics

- The amount of water that the fabrics are dunked and held in

You will need to run multiple tests by running water over both of the fabrics and seeing which one resists it better and which one absorbs it more. (pour the water at the same constant speed for both fabrics). Do this about 6-10 times. RECORD DATA. MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMPLETELY DRYING EACH FABRIC IN BETWEEN EACH TEST. Do the same test, but dunk the fabrics in the same ammount of water and hold the fabrics in for the same ammount of time. Run this test (dry fabrics in between) at least 6-10 times and record your data.

When recording your data, make sure you rate them by (dry, damp, wet, soaked).

Here is an example table for graphing your data:

Fabric A: 5 sec (drenched)   6sec (drenched      9sec (drenched)

Fabric B: 5 sec (damp)         6sec (damp)             9sec (wet)

So in this test, fabric B held out longer than fabric A. So the scientist would be correct. If it were the other way around, then fabric B would have held out longer and the scientist would be wrong.
