A ship moves through the water at 30 miles/hour at an angle of 30° south of east. The water is moving 5 miles/hour at an angle o

f 20° east of north. Identify the ship's vector, the water current's vector, and the vector representing the ship's actual motion.

If you want (x, y) coordinates to match (East, North) coordinates, then your vectors are
.. ship = (30 mph, ∠-30°)
.. water = (5 mph, ∠70°)
.. ship +water = (29.545, ∠-20.406°) . . . . . from my graphing calculator
That is, the total is 29.5 mph E20°S.

_____
If you are required to do the calculation by hand, you add the components of each vector. They are computed from
.. (r, θ) = r*(cos(θ), sin(θ))
For example, the ship's speed would be
.. (30 mph, ∠-30°) = (30 mph)*(cos(-30°), sin(-30°)) = (25.9808, -15.0000) mph
and the total of ship and water would be
.. (27.6909, -10.3015) mph
This is converted back to (r, θ) by
.. r = √(x^2 +y^2)
.. θ = arctan(y/x) . . . . with attention to quadrant

_____
The above calculations use (E, N) coordinates so north is in the direction of +y, and angles are measured counterclockwise from +x.

Navigation problems can also be worked using (N, E) coordinates with angles measured the way bearings are conventionally measured, clockwise from north. The math is exactly the same, and the conversion to and from rectangular (N, E) coordinates to polar (r, bearing) coordinates is virtually identical (bearing = arctan(E/N)). I find it less work to do it this way and not have to worry about numbers getting swapped in translation.

For this problem, I would use ship=(30,∠120°), current=(5,∠20°), total=(29.5∠110.4°), where all the angles are bearing angles measured CW from north.

Andrea has a yard shaped like parallelogram ABCD. The garden area, parallelogram EFGB, has an area of 105 ft2004-05-02-04-00_fil
Lynna [10]

The area of a parallelogram is simply calculated using the formula:

A = b * h

Where,

b = length of the base = 45 ft

h = height which is perpendicular to the base = 21 ft

Using the formula, we calculate the total area of the yard.

A = b* h

A = 45 ft * 21 ft

A = 945 ft^2

Now we don’t want to sod the Garden area for the most obvious reason. The garden has an Area of 105 ft^2, we subtract this to the total area giving us,

Area to sod = 945 ft^2 – 105ft^2

<span>Area to sod = 840 ft^2</span>

21. Given directed line segment WV , find the coordinates of R
Jobisdone [24]

Answer:

R\left(\frac {4x_1+3x_2}{7} , \frac {4y_1+3y_2}{7}\right)

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the coordinate of the points W, V and R are (x_1,y_1), (x_2,y_2), and (x_s,y_s)respectively.

The coordinate of the section point, (x_s,y_s), which divides the line joining the two points (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_2) in the ration m:n is

x_s=\frac {nx_1+mx_2}{m+n} and

y_s=\frac {ny_1+my_2}{m+n}.

The given ration is, m:n=3:4

R(x_s,y_s)=R\left(\frac {nx_1+mx_2}{m+n} , \frac {ny_1+my_2}{m+n}\right)

=R\left(\frac {4x_1+3x_2}{7} , \frac {4y_1+3y_2}{7}\right).

The exact point can be determined by putting the value of the exact coordinate in the above-obtained formula.

The double cone is intersected by a vertical plane passing through the point where the tips of the cones meet. What is the shape
Leni [432]

Answer:

B.

Step-by-step explanation:

The double cone is a cone on top of another cone. The bottom cone has the circular base on the bottom and the tip on top. The upper cone is upside down, and the two tips touch. Since the vertical plane goes through the tips of both cones, the cross section must have a shape that  gets to a point at the middle of the height.

Answer: B. One triangle with the tip on top and an inverted triangle above it with the tips touching.
