Hannah is writing a report on how albedo affects the global climate. She’s proofreading her passage for any factual errors. Whic

h sentence must Hannah correct before submitting her report?
Earth receives energy from the Sun. This energy drives many of the processes on Earth, including its climate. Some part of this energy is reflected by Earth’s surface. We use the term albedo to describe the reflected energy. Albedo of an object is the ratio of the reflected radiation to the total radiation reaching the object. A value of 0 means no energy is absorbed by the object, whereas a value of 1 means that all of the energy is absorbed. In this way, the albedo of an object can influence Earth’s atmospheric temperature.

Answer: The sentence Hannah needs to correct is " A value of 0 means no energy is absorbed by the object, whereas a value of 1 means that all of the energy is absorbed."

Explanation: Instead, an object with an albedo value of 0 absorbs energy in it's entirety and an object with a value of 1 absorbs no energy.

Acetic acid, ch3cooh, is a weak organic acid, pka 4.47. determine the position of the equilibrium for the reaction of acetic aci
Alexeev081 [22]

Acetic acid (CH3COOH) is a weak acid while methylamine (CH3NH2) is a weak base. During an acid base reaction, an acid tends to lose a proton while a base tends to accept a proton. The reaction at equilibrium is as follows:

CH3COOH +CH3NH2↔CH3COO^{-} +CH3NH3^{+}

Hence the species in equilibrium are:

Acetate anion: CH3COO-

Methyl ammonium cation: CH3NH3+

A sixth grade teacher takes students on a field trip to the beach. One student finds several pebbles that have a rounded shape a
Fittoniya [83]

Answer:

C: The shape of the pebbles is a result of weathering and deposition

Explanation:

For the several pebbles to have a rounded shape and smooth to the touch, it will undergo weathering and deposition. This is because weathering involves breaking down of rocks and creating new sediments. This weathering could be either chemical weathering or physical weathering where Chemical weathering is the decomposition of rocks which are caused by chemical reactions and which result in formation of new compound while physical weathering is the breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces. On the other hand, deposition occurs when the agents of erosion such as wind or water deposit sediments from one spot to another which in turn changes the shape of the land.

Thus, the shape of the pebbles are as a result weathering of the parent rocks and from deposition.

How many electrons are transferred in the given redox reaction?<br><br> Zn+2AgNO3⟶2Ag+Zn(NO3)2
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

2 electrons are transfered in this reaction.

Explanation:

Oxidation is a reaction where an atom, ion, or molecule loses electrons, while reduction corresponds to the electron gain of an atom, ion, or molecule.

In an oxidation-reduction reaction two simultaneous processes take place, oxidation and reduction.

So, oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions involve the transfer of electrons between chemical species. They are also called electron transfer reactions since the particle that is exchanged is the electron.

In this case:

Zn(s) ⇒ Zn²⁺(aq) + 2 e⁻

2 Ag⁺  (aq) + 2 e⁻ ⇒ 2 Ag(s)

So, zinc metal loses two electrons to form the zinc(II) ions, while the two silver ions each gain one  electron to form two silver metal atoms.

Then, Zn is a reducing agent (The reducing agent is the one that provides the electrons, oxidizing itself), AgNO3 is an oxidizing agent (The oxidizing agent is the one that traps the electrons, reducing itself).

Finally, you can see that <u><em>2 electrons are transfered in this reaction.</em></u>

A 15.0 mL sample of 0.013 M HNO3 is titrated with 0.017 M CH$NH2 which he Kb=3.9 X 10-10. Determine the pH at these points: At t
kramer

<u>Answer:</u> The pH of the solution in the beginning is 1.89 and the pH of the solution after the addition of base is

<u>Explanation:</u>

  • <u>For 1:</u> At the beginning

To calculate the pH of the solution, we use the equation:

pH=-\log[H^+]

We are given:

Nitric acid is a monoprotic acid and it dissociates 1 mole of hydrogen ions. So, the concentration of hydrogen ions is 0.013 M

[H^+]=0.013M

Putting values in above equation, we get:

pH=-\log(0.013)\\\\pH=1.89

  • <u>For 2:</u>

To calculate the number of moles, we use the equation:

\text{Molarity of the solution}=\frac{\text{Moles of solute}\times 1000}{\text{Volume of solution (in mL)}}

  • <u>For nitric acid:</u>

Molarity of nitric acid solution = 0.013 M

Volume of solution = 15 mL

Putting values in above equation, we get:

0.013M=\frac{\text{Moles of }HNO_3\times 1000}{15}\\\\\text{Moles of }HNO_3=1.95\times 10^{-4}mol

  • <u>For methylamine:</u>

Molarity of methylamine solution = 0.017 M

Volume of solution = 10 mL

Putting values in above equation, we get:

0.017M=\frac{\text{Moles of }CH_3NH_2\times 1000}{10}\\\\\text{Moles of }CH_3NH_2=1.7\times 10^{-4}mol

  • The chemical equation for the reaction of nitric acid and methylamine follows:

                       HNO_3+CH_3NH_2\rightarrow CH_3NH_3^++NO_3^-

As, the mole ratio of nitric acid and methyl amine is 1 : 1. So, the limiting reagent will be the reactant whose number of moles are less, which is methyl amine.

By Stoichiometry of the reaction:

1 mole of methyl amine produces 1 mole of CH_3NH_3^+

So, 1.7\times 10^{-4}mol of methyl amine will produce = \frac{1}{1}\times 1.7\times 10^{-4}=1.7\times 10^{-4}\text{ moles of }CH_3NH_3^+

To calculate the pK_b of base, we use the equation:

pK_b=-\log(K_b)

where,

K_b = base dissociation constant = 3.9\times 10^{-10}

Putting values in above equation, we get:

pK_b=-\log(3.9\time 10^{-10})\\\\pK_b=9.41

  • To calculate the pOH of basic buffer, we use the equation given by Henderson Hasselbalch:

pOH=pK_b+\log(\frac{[salt]}{[base]})

pOH=pK_b+\log(\frac{[CH_3NH_3^+]}{[CH_3NH_2]})

We are given:

pK_b=9.41

[CH_3NH_3^+]=\frac{1.7\times 10^{-4}}{10+15}=6.8\times 10^{-6}M

[CH_3NH_2]=\frac{1.7\times 10^{-4}}{10+15}=6.8\times 10^{-6}M

Putting values in above equation, we get:

pOH=9.41+\log(\frac{6.8\times 10^{-6}}{6.8\times 10^{-6}})\\\\pOH=9.41

To calculate pH of the solution, we use the equation:

pH+pOH=14\\pH=14-9.41=4.59

Hence, the pH of the solution is 4.59
