Answer is: c. N2O, N2O4, N2O5.

Law of multiple proportions or Dalton's Law said that the ratios of the masses of the second element which combine with a fixed mass of the first element will be ratios of small whole numbers.

1) NO; m(N) : m(O) = 14 : 16 = 7 : 8.

2) N₂O; m(N) : m(O) = 2·14 : 16 = 7 : 4.

3) NO₂; m(N) : m(O) = 14 : 2·16 = 7 : 16.

4) N₂O₅; m(N) : m(O) = (2·14) : (5·16) = 7 : 20.

5) NO₄; m(N) : m(O) = 14 : (4·16) = 7 : 32.

6) N₂O₄; m(N) : m(O) = (2·14) : (4·16) = 7 : 16.

A) m(N) : m(O) = 5.6 g : 3.2 g /÷3.2

m(N) : m(O) = 1.75 : 1 /×4.

m(N) : m(O) = 7 : 4.

B) m(N) : m(O) = 3.5 g : 8.0 g /÷3.5

m(N) : m(O) = 1 : 2.285/ ×7.

m(N) : m(O) = 7 : 16.

C) m(N) : m(O) = 1.4 g : 4.0 g / ÷ 1.4.

m(N) : m(O) = 1 : 2857/ ×7.

m(N) : m(O) = 7 : 20.

The possible formula in Dalton's time (had never heard of a mole)

a. NO₂, NO₈, NO₁₀

c. N₂O, N₂O₄, N₂O₅

Further explanation

Dalton's law of multiple comparisons states that if elements are forming two or more kinds of compounds, if the mass of one of the elements is known to be the same / fixed, then the mass of the second element in the two compounds will have a ratio as a simple integer.

The available samples show the ratio of masses of elements N and O as follows:

 • 1. Compound A: N: O = 5.6: 3.2 = 1.75: 1
 • 2. Compound B: N: O = 3.5: 8.0 = 1: 2,235
 • 3. Compound C: N: O = 1.4: 4.0 = 1: 2.8857

To simplify numbers into simple integers, we multiply all the comparisons above by multiplying 7, so we get:

Compound A: 7: 4

Compound B: 7:16

Compound C: 7:20

From the results of this comparison shows that for the same number of N, the ratio of element O is 4:16:20 = 1: 4: 5 (fulfills Dalton's theory)

So according to Dalton (because there is no concept of the mole) then there is a possibility that the compound is:

a. NO₂, NO₈, NO₁₀

c. N₂O, N₂O₄, N₂O₅

But if we use the mole concept which shows the empirical formula of the compounds, the mole ratio of each compound is:

 • Compound A:

5.6 / 14: 3.2: 16 = 0.4: 0.2 = 2: 1

 • Compound B:

3.5 / 14: 8/16 = 0.25: 0.5 = 1: 2 = 2: 4

 • Compound C:

1.4 / 14: 4/16 = 0.1: 0.25 = 2: 5

So if we use the mole concept, then the appropriate compound is c. N₂O, N₂O₄, N₂O₅

The graph shows the distribution of energy in the particles of two gas samples at different temperatures, T1 and T2. A, B, and C
coldgirl [10]

Answer:

 • The average speed of gas particles at T₂ is lower than the average speed of gas particles at T₁.

Explanation:

Particles A and C are shown as if they are on the same vertical line, which means with the same kinetic energy. Both particle A and C are to the lett of particle B, which means that the formers have a lower kinetic energy than the latter.

Since the likelyhood of a particle to participate in the reaction increases with the kinetic energy, particle B is more likely to participate in the reaction than particles A and C. Hence, the first choice is incorrect.

The graph, although not perfectly symmetrical, does show a bell shape, hence there are many particles will low kinetic energy and many particles with high kinetic energy. You cannot assert that most of the particles of the two gases have high high speeds. Hence, second statement is incorrect, too.

At high values of kinetic energy (toward the right of the curve), the line labeled T₁ is higher than the line labeled T₂, meaning that at T₁ more particles have an elevated kinetic energy than the number of particles that have an elevated kinetic energy at T₂.

On the other hand, at low values of kinetic energy (toward the left of the curve) the line T₂ is higher than the line T₁, meaning that at T₂ more particles have a low kinetic energy than the number of particles that have low kinetic energy at T₁.

Hence, the last two paragraphs are telling that the average kinetic energy of gas particles at T₂ is is lower than the average kinetic energy of gas particles at T₁.

Since the average speed is proportional the the square root of the temperature, the same trend for the average kinetic energy is true for the average speed, and you conclude that the last statement is true: "The average speed of gas particles at T₂ is lower than the average speed of gas particles at T₁".

Since more particles at T₁ have high kinetic energy than the number of particles at T₂ that have a high kinetic energy, more particles of gas at T₁ are likely to participate in the reaction than the gas at T₂, and the third statement is incorrect.

Identify one disadvantage to each of the following models of electron configuration:
Murrr4er [49]

Answer:

The disadvantages of each of the given model of electron configuration have been mentioned below:

1). Dot Structures - They take up excess space as they do not display the electron distribution in orbitals.

2). Arrow and line diagrams make the counting of electrons and take up too much space.

3). Written Configurations do not display the electron distribution in orbitals and help in lose counting of electrons easily.

Consider the reaction cacn2 3 h2o → caco3 2 nh3 . how much nh3 is produced if 187 g of caco3 are produced?
shusha [124]
B ase from the reaction cacn2 3 h2o → caco3 2 nh3, for every 1 mole of caco3 produced there 2 moles of nh3 being produced. to solved this, we must first convert the caco3 to moles.

mass nh3 = 187 g caco3 (1 mol caco3 / 100 g caco3 ) ( 2 mol nh3 / 1 mol caco3) ( 17 g nh3 / 1 mol nh3)

mass nh3 = 63.58 g nh3 is produced

Unit Conversion Help Thank you
AlekseyPX

Answer : 1721.72 g/qt are in 18.2 g/cL

Explanation :

As we are given: 18.2 g/cL

Now we have to convert 18.2 g/cL to g/qt.

Conversions used are:

(1) 1 L = 100 cL

(2) 1 L = 1000 mL

(3) 1 qt = 946 qt

The conversion expression will be:

\frac{18.2g}{1cL}\times \frac{100cL}{1L}\times \frac{1L}{1000mL}\times \frac{946mL}{1qt}

=1721.72\text{ g/qt}

Therefore, 1721.72 g/qt are in 18.2 g/cL

Which pairs of reactants will result in a chemical reaction? Refer to the activity series as needed. Pb ( s ) + MgCl 2 ( aq ) Pb
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

Al (s) + AgClO3 (aq) will result in a chemical reaction.

Al(s) + 3AgClO₃(aq) -----> Al(ClO₃)₃(aq) + 3Ag(s)

Cd(s) + CuNO3(aq) will also result in a chemical reaction.

Cd(s) + 2CuNO₃ -----> Cd(NO₃)₂ + 2Cu

Explanation:

For chemical reactions, metals lower on the activity series cannot normally displace ions of metals higher than them in the activity series.

Metals at the lower end of the activity series are not easily oxidized.

The activity series is attached to this solution. (Note: Cadmium is not on the attached chart, but Cadmium is between Iron (Fe) & Cobalt (Co) on the activity series)

- Pb is way lower Mg in the activity series, hence, it cannot become oxidized by displacing Mg2+ ion in solution.

- Al is way higher than Ag in the activity series. Hence it will easily be oxidized and displace displace Ag from it's solution easily.

- Cadmium will displace Copper in solution too because Cd is higher than Cu on the activity series.

- Platinum cannot displace Cobalt from solution as Pt is lower than Co on the activity series.
