A broken yellow line on the pavement indicates that the adjacent lane is traveling in the opposite direction and passing is permitted. It is a question of a Driving Exam. Broken yellow lines can also mark areas where parking would cause an obstruction. But in this case, yellow centerline marks a two-way road (when it is broken you can overtake the vehicle in front of you). Just pay attention to the opposite direction, because there will be vehicles moving in the opposite hand.

A pavement marking such as a broken yellow line is part of a communication system for road users (it communicates to drivers where to position their vehicles, and indicate where passing is allowed).

Which of the following were characteristics of Athenian democracy? Select the three correct answers.
Delvig [45]

Answer:

A. The government consisted of an assembly, a council, and courts.

C. Only free adult males made up the assembly.

D. The citizens elected leaders to discuss important matters.

E. Women, slaves, and foreigners were not allowed to participate.

Explanation:

Around 594 to 321 BC, in the Athenian polis, there was a democratic form of government. It is called the world's first democratic system. Any citizen had the right (and even the obligation) to participate in the work of the National Assembly. As it is noted by experts, in the heyday of Athenian democracy, about a third of citizens simultaneously held one or another public office.

Ancient Greek democracy was a limited democracy of only free citizens, leaving without the political rights slaves and women, who constituted the vast majority of the population; this ancient democracy was slave-owning democracy.

The national assembly met every 8-9 days, and several thousand people took part in it. Between the meetings of the ecclesia, the “council of five hundred,” was engaged in current affairs. Members of the council were elected by lot of citizens no younger than 30 years old. Litigation was heard in a "jury trial." It consisted of 6,000 people who were chosen by lot.

Trava [24]

Sojourner Truth probably disagreed with the anti-women's suffrage movement and believed that women were rational and responsible enough to be involved in politics.

"Ain't I a Woman?" is a speech by Sojourner Truth (1797–1883), an African-American anti-slavery activist born a slave in the state of New York. It was delivered at the Women's Convention in Akron, Ohio, on May 29, 1851. "Am I not a man and a brother?" was a recurring motto used in the British anti-slavery campaign as early as the late 18th century. By claiming this phrase for herself and adapting it, Truth asserted both her race and her gender.

She believed in equality between men and women as much as between whites and blacks. In her speech, she expresses in many ways how she thinks women can do as much as men can ("I am as strong as any man"), and therefore should be given the same rights. This leads us to affirm that she would likely have defended women's suffrage.

She even alludes to men's unjustified fear of giving women more power: "You need not be afraid to give us our rights for fear we will take too much." This harkens back to Abigail Adams' letter to her husband, where she asks him to "be more generous and favourable" to the ladies.
