Given that

24 grains = 1 pennyweight (exact)

20 pennyweight = 1 troy ounce (exact)

12 troy ounces = 1 troy pound (exact)

1 grain = 0.0648 g

1 carat = 0.200 g

a)  Mass of one troy pound in Kg and pounds

(i) in kilograms

1 troy pound = 12 troy ounces

                     = 1 2X 20 penny weight

                      = 12 X 20 X 24 grains

                      = 12 X 20 X 24 X 0.0648 grams

                    = 373.248 g

                    =0.37325 Kg

ii) in pounds

1 gram = 0.002205 pounds

373.248 g = 0.823 pounds

b) 1 troy ounce = 20 penny weight

                        =  20 X 24 grains

                      = 20 X 24 X 0.0648 g

                   = 31.104 g

one carat = 0.20 g

so 31.104g = 31.104 / 0.2 carot = 155.52 carat

c) density of gold is 19.3 g/cm 3

volume of 1 troy pound

Mass of 1 troy pound in grams = 373. 248 g

Volume  = mass / density = 373.248 / 19.3  = 19.34 cm^3

A chemical engineer must report the average volume of a certain pollutant produced by the plants under her supervision. Here are
AfilCa [17]

Answer:

The chemical engineer should report average volume of 15.34 L.

Explanation:

Volume of Macon = 0.519 L

Volume of Allegheny = 44.67 L

Volume of Doheny = 0.826 L

Average of the volume of the pollutants:

\frac{0.519 L+44.67 L+ 0.826L}{3}=\frac{46.015 L}{3}=15.33833 L

The rule apply for the addition and subtraction is :

The least precise number present after the decimal point determines the number of significant figures in the answer.

Here the 44.67  has two significant digit after decimal point.So the answer will be reported as in with 2 significant figures after decimal point.

15.33833 L\approx 15.34 L

The chemical engineer should report average volume of 15.34 L.

Ka, the acid dissociation constant, for an acid is 9 × 10^{−4} at room temperature. At this temperature, what is the approximate
devlian [24]
Dissociation=k×no of moles
percentage of dissociation=9.0×10^-4×1×100
knowing that x%=x/100,we then say;
x/100=9.0×10^-4×1×100
therefore, x=100×100×9×10^-4×1
x=9
x percentage of dissociation=9%

How many molecules are in 70.7 grams of C4H10?
OlgaM077 [116]

Answer:

1.216mol

Explanation:

The molar mass of C₄H₁₀ is (12 x4)+ (1x 10) = 48 + 10 = 58g

1 grams C4H10 is equal to 0.017205129881525 mole.

70.7 grams = 70.7 x 0.017205129881525  = 1.216mol

A sample of 0.6760 g of an unknown compound containing barium ions (ba2+) is dissolved in water and treated with an excess of na
notka56 [123]

Answer: 35.72 % of Barium ions will be present in the original unknown compound.

Explanation: The reaction of Barium ions and sodium sulfate is:

Na_2SO_4(aq.)+Ba^{2+}(aq.)\rightarrow BaSO_4(s)+2Na^+(aq.)

Here, Sodium sulfate is present in excess, Barium ions are the limiting reagent because it limits the formation of product.

Now, 1 mole of barium sulfate is produced by 1 mole of Barium ions.

Molar mass of Barium sulfate = 233.38 g/mol

Molar mass of Barium ions = 137.327 g/mol

233.38 g/mol of barium sulfate will be produced by 137.323 g/mol of Barium ions, so

0.4105 grams of barium sulfate will be produced by = \frac{137.327g/mol}{233.38g/mol}\times 0.4105g of Barium ions

Mass of barium ions = 0.2415 grams

To calculate percentage by mass, we use the formula:

\% mass=\frac{\text{Mass of solute (in grams)}}{\text{Total mass of the solution(in grams)}}\times 100

Mass of the solution = 0.6760 grams

Putting the value in above equation, we get

\% \text{ mass of }Ba^{2+}\text{ ions}=\frac{0.2415g}{0.6760g}\times 100

% mass of Barium ions = 35.72%.
