Answer:

a) V air/day = 8640 L air  an adult breaths / day

b) 0.0181 L CO intake a person / day

Explanation:

a) one average person has 12 breaths for min:

  • P = 12 breath/min

in each breath it take an average  of 500 mL on air.

  • 1 breath ≅ 500 mL air

⇒ 12 breath / min * 500mL air / breath = 6000 mL air / min

the average air volume per day of a person is:

⇒ Vair/day = 6000 mL air / min * (60 min / h) * ( 24 h / day ) = 8640000 mLair / day * ( L / 1000 mL)

⇒ V air / day = 8640 L / day

b) 2.1 E-6 L CO / L air * 8640 L air / day = 0.0181 L CO / day

Determine the number of atoms in 1.85 ml of mercury. (the density of mercury is 13.5 g/ml.)
kati45 [8]
First step is to get the mass of the mercury:
Pressure = mass/volume
mass = pressure x volume = 13.5 x 1.85 = 24.975 gm

Second step is to calculate the number of moles in 24.975 gm:
From the periodic table, the molar mass of mercury is 200.59
mass = number of moles x molar mass
number of moles = 24.975 / 200.59 = 0.1245 mole

Last step is to get the number of atoms:
Each mole contains 6.02 x 10^23 atoms
number of atoms = 0.1245 x 6.02 x 10^23 = 7.4949 x 10^22 atoms

An atom of helium has a radius = and an average speed in the gas phase at of . . Suppose the speed of a helium atom at has been
Hunter-Best [27]

Answer:

1.2\times 10^3  rNe

Explanation:

Given that

Speed of neon = 350 m/s

Un-certainity in speed= (0.01 ÷ 100) × 350

= 0.035 m/s

As per heisenberg uncertainty principle

\triangle X\times m \triangle \ v\geq \frac{h}{4\pi }  ....... (i)

substituting the values in equation (i)

\triangle X = 4.49 \times 10^-^8 m

In terms of rNe i.e 38 pm = 38\times 10^-^1^2

\triangle X = \frac{4.49\times 10^-^8}{38\times 10^-^1^2}

= 0.118 \times 10^4 \times (rNe)

= 1.18\times 10^3 rN

= 1.2 \times 10^3 rNe

Therefore the smallest possible length of the box inside in which the atom could be known for locating with certainty is 1.2\times 10^3 rNe
