solution

we consider here x and y is the length and width and area is rectangular

so

total linear feet  will be

4 x + 2 y = 400

y = 200 - 2x

and

area = x y

area = x  (200 -2x)

area = 200 x - 2x²

we know area maximum will be when x = \frac{-b}{2a}

here a - 2 and b is 200

so

length x = \frac{-200}{2(-2)} = 50 feet

width y = 200 - 2(-2) = 100  feet
