Inside a starship at rest on the earth, a ball rolls off the top of a horizontal table and lands a distance D from the foot of t

he table. This starship now lands on the unexplored Planet X. The commander, Captain Curious, rolls the same ball off the same table with the same initial speed as on earth and finds that it lands a distance 2.76D from the foot of the table. What is the accelera- tion due to gravity on Planet X?

Answer:

a_X=1.29m/s^2

Explanation:

Horizontally we will use the equation t=\frac{d}{v}, where <em>t</em> is the time of fall of the ball, <em>d</em> is the distance from the foot of the table and v the initial (horizontal only) speed of the ball.

Vertically we will use the equation h=\frac{at^2}{2} (since the initial vertical speed is zero), where <em>h</em> is the height of the table and <em>a</em> the acceleration of gravity.

Combining both:

h=\frac{at^2}{2}=\frac{ad^2}{2v^2}

Better written for our case as 2hv^2=ad^2 since the variables on the left are the same for both the Earth and Planet X, so we know that what appears on the right hand side must be the same for both also.

This means that a_Ed_E^2=a_Xd_X^2, which means:

a_X=a_E(\frac{d_E}{d_X})^2

For our values:

a_X=g(\frac{D}{2.76D})^2=\frac{g}{2.76^2}=\frac{9.8m/s^2}{2.76^2}=1.29m/s^2

A mover hoists a 50 kg box from the ground to a height of 2 m. What was the change in the box's energy
SSSSS [86.1K]

Answer:

980 J

Explanation:

The change in box's energy is equal to its change in gravitational potential energy:

\Delta U = m g \Delta h

where

m = 50 kg is the mass of the box

g = 9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration due to gravity

\Delta h= 2m is the change in height of the box

Substituting numbers, we find

\Delta U = (50 kg)(9.8 m/s^2)(2 m)=980 J

Alex goes cruising on his dirt bike. He rides 700m north, 300m east, 400 m north, 600m west, 1200m south, 300m east and finally
Bess [88]

Find Displacement and Distance

displacement ...

north is 700+400+100 =1200m n

south=1200m

1200-1200=0

east is 300+300=600m

west is 600m

600-600=0

back at dtart. displ zero

distance is 700+ 300m + 400 m + 600m + 1200m + 300m + 100m  = 3600m

A quarterback throws a football at 40km/hr to a receiver 50yd away. How much time does it take the ball to reach the receiver
Akimi4 [234]

Given:

Distance = 50 yard = 45.72 meter

Speed = 40 km/hr = 11.11 m/s

To find:

Time required by ball to reach the receiver = ?

Formula used:

speed = \frac{distance}{time}

Solution:

The speed of the ball is given by,

speed = \frac{distance}{time}

Thus,

Time = \frac{distance}{speed}

Distance = 50 yard = 45.72 meter

Speed = 40 km/hr = 11.11 m/s

Time = 4.12 second

Hence, ball reaches the receiver in 4.12 second.

A woman fires a rifle with barrel length of 0.5400 m. Let (0, 0) be where the 125 g bullet begins to move, and the bullet travel
dybincka [34]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

Length of barrel =0.54m

Mass of bullet=125g=0.125kg

Force extend

F=16,000+10,000x-26,000x²

a. Work done is given as

W= ∫Fdx

W= ∫(16,000+10,000x-26,000x² dx from x=0 to x=0.54m

W=16,000x+10,000x²/2 -26,000x³/3 from x=0 to x=0.54m

W=16,000x+5,000x²- 8666.667x³ from x=0 to x=0.54m

W= 16,000(0.54) + 5000(0.54²) - 8666.667(0.54³) +0+0-0

W=8640+1458-1364.69

W=8733.31J

The workdone by the gas on the bullet is 8733.31J

b. Work done is given as

Work done when the length=1.05m

W= ∫Fdx

W= ∫(16,000+10,000x-26,000x² dx from x=0 to x=1.05m

W=16,000x+10,000x²/2 -26,000x³/3 from x=0 to x=1.05m

W=16,000x+5,000x²- 8666.667x³ from x=0 to x=1.05mm

W= 16,000(1.05) + 5000(1.05²) - 8666.667(1.05³) +0+0-0

W=16800+5512.5-10032.75

W=12,279.75J

The workdone by the gas on the bullet is 12,279.75J

An object travels 50 m in 4 s. It had no initial velocity and experiences constant acceleration. What is the magnitude of the ac
Allisa [31]

Answer:

The formula to calculate velocity in this case:

v = v0 + at

=> a = (v - v0)/t

       = (50 - 0)/4

       = 50/4 = 12.5 (m/s2)

Hope this helps!
