Select the correct text in the passage. This paragraph attempts to explain the rain shadow effect, but it gets some of the facts

wrong. Identify the inaccurate statements in the paragraph. The Mojave Desert provides a famous example of a rain shadow effect in the Sierra Nevada. Warm, moist air goes up the mountain on its leeward side, where its water content condenses to precipitate as rain or snow. Then the cold, dry air moves to the other side, where the desert lies. This side is called the windward side and, compared with the leeward side, receives hardly any rainfall. This rain shadow effect is responsible for the dryness and extreme climate of the desert.

Answers:

The entire passage is correct, only the words "windward" and "leeward" should be interchanged.

The inaccurate statements are-

(a) The warm and moist air rising up the mountain on its leeward side

(b) The cool and dry air moves towards the other side of the mountain where the desert lies and is the windward side

Explanation:

In order to form a rain shadow effect, the warm and moisture containing air rises up the mountain on its windward side. The water in this high region gets condensed and starts precipitating in the form of rain or snow.

After precipitation, the air becomes dry and warm and moves towards the leeward side where there is the desert. The leeward side does not receive any rainfall and this rain shadow zone is mainly the reason behind the dryness and the extreme climates in the deserts.

The words that are underlined above are the wrong words in the given paragraph.

Para proteger un computador de sobrecargas eléctricas, Juan coloca un filamento delgado de cobre llamado fusible en su circuito,
Lynna [10]

Answer:

Let’s now multiply two numbers in scientific notation using Google.
olga_2 [115]
We are going to rewrite each number:
(4.48E-8) = 0.0000000448
(5.2E-4) = 0.00052
We observe that when multiplying, the exponent will be on the order of 10 ^ -11
Doing the multiplication we have:
(4.48E-8) * (5.2E-4) = 2.3296E-11
Rewriting:
(4.48E-8) * (5.2E-4) = 2.33E-11
Answer:

2.33E-11

The table shows information about four students who are running around a track. Which statement is supported by the information
Vikentia [17]

Answer:

Correct option: Mohammed has less kinetic energy than Autumn.

Explanation:

Kinetic Energy

Is the energy an object has due to its motion. If the object has a mass m and travels at a speed v, then the kinetic energy K is:

\displaystyle K=\frac{1}{2}mv^2

The information about four students includes their mass and velocity as follows:

Autumn has a mass of m1=50 kg and a velocity (magnitude) of v1=4 m/s, thus their kinetic energy is:

\displaystyle K_1=\frac{1}{2}50\cdot 4^2

K_1=400\ J

Mohammed has a mass of m2=57 kg and a velocity (magnitude) of v2=3 m/s, thus their kinetic energy is:

\displaystyle K_2=\frac{1}{2}57\cdot 3^2

K_2=256.5\ J

Lexy has a mass of m3=53 kg and a velocity (magnitude) of v3=2 m/s, thus their kinetic energy is:

\displaystyle K_3=\frac{1}{2}53\cdot 2^2

K_3=106\ J

Chiang has a mass of m4=64 kg and a velocity (magnitude) of v4=5 m/s, thus their kinetic energy is:

\displaystyle K_4=\frac{1}{2}64\cdot 5^2

K_4=800\ J

Sorted from lower kinetic energy to higher:

Lexy, Mohammed, Autumn, Chiang. Thus:

Autumn has more kinetic energy than Chiang. False

Mohammed has less kinetic energy than Autumn. True

Lexy has more kinetic energy than Mohammed. False

Chiang has less kinetic energy than Lexy. False

Correct option: Mohammed has less kinetic energy than Autumn.

Weddell seals make holes in sea ice so that they can swim down to forage on the ocean floor below. Measurements for one seal sho
Mariulka [41]

Answer:

B. 1 m/s

Explanation:

Metric unit conversions:

0.3 km = 300m

5 minutes = 5*60 = 300 seconds

So if a seal can reach a depth of 300m in a time of 300 seconds, its diving speed is the distance divided by time duration

v = s/t = 300/300 = 1m/s

So B is the correct answer
