Andrea and Chuck are riding on a merry-go-round. Andrea rides on a horse at the outer rim of the circular platform, twice as far

from the center of the circular platform as Chuck, who rides on an inner horse. When the merry-go-round is rotating at a constant angular speed, Andrea's tangential speed is which of the following? a) twice Chuck's b) the same as Chuck's c) half of Chuck's d) impossible to determine B. When the merry go round is rotating at a constant angular speed, Andrea's tangential speed is a) twice Chuck's b) the same as Chuck's

Answer: a) Twice Chuck's

Explanation:

If the angular speed is constant, as the merry - go -round is a rigid body, so the distance between two points must remain the same, it is needed that the points farther the center, move faster than the ones closer to it.

There exists a relationship between tangential and angular speed, as follows, that relates the definitions of linear and angular speed, and the angle definition:

angle = arc / radius ⇒ Δθ/Δt = Δs/Δt / r ⇒ ω = v/r ⇒ v = ω. r

If ω is constant, v is directly proportional to r, distance to the center (radius in a circular platform), so if r is twice for Andrea, her tangential speed must be twice Chuck's.

If isomerization requires breaking the pi bond, what minimum energy is required for isomerization in j/mol?
aliina [53]
The minimum energy required for isomerization is 267 000 J/mol

The isomerization of cis-but-2-ene to trans-but-2-ene requires breaking of the π bond.

The bond energy of a C-C σ bond is 347 kJ/mol.

The bond energy of a C=C double bond (σ + π) is 614 kJ/mol.

So the bond energy of a π bond is (614 – 347) kJ/mol = 267 kJ/mol =
267 000 J/mol.

If the cold temperature reservoir of a Carnot engine is held at a constant 306 K, what temperature should the hot reservoir be k
Paraphin [41]
Efficiency η of a Carnot engine is defined to be:
η = 1 - Tc / Th = (Th - Tc) / Th
where
Tc is the absolute temperature of the cold reservoir, and
Th is the absolute temperature of the hot reservoir.

In this case, given is η=22% and Th - Tc = 75K
Notice that although temperature difference is given in °C it has same numerical value in Kelvins because magnitude of the degree Celsius is exactly equal to that of the Kelvin (the difference between two scales is only in their starting points).

Th = (Th - Tc) / η
Th = 75 / 0.22 = 341 K (rounded to closest number)
Tc = Th - 75 = 266 K

Lower temperature is Tc = 266 K
Higher temperature is Th = 341 K

A 25.0 g marble sliding to the right at 20.0 cm/s overtakes and collides elastically with a 10.0 g marble moving in the same dir
ikadub [295]
In collision that are categorized as elastic, the total kinetic energy of the system is preserved such that,

 KE1 = KE2

The kinetic energy of the system before the collision is solved below.

 KE1 = (0.5)(25)(20)² + (0.5)(10g)(15)²
 KE1 = 6125 g cm²/s²

This value should also be equal to KE2, which can be calculated using the conditions after the collision.

KE2 = 6125 g cm²/s² = (0.5)(10)(22.1)² + (0.5)(25)(x²)

The value of x from the equation is 17.16 cm/s.

Hence, the answer is 17.16 cm/s.
