Find a recurrence relation for the number of ways to go n miles by foot walking at 2 miles per hour or jogging at 4 miles per ho

Answer:

(a) x_{n} = x_{n - 2} + x_{n - 4} + x_{n - 8}

(b) 18 ways

Solution:

As per the question:

We need to find the no.of ways to go 'n' miles by foot:

From the question it is clear that, at each hours even miles can be traveled by a person, If the distance to be covered is odd, then there in no way 3 miles can be covered.

Thus defining recurrence as:

x_{o} = 1

x_{n} = 0

where

n: negative or odd

Then

x_{n} = x_{n - 2} + x_{n - 4} + x_{n - 8}

(b) No. of ways to travel 12 miles:

x_{o} = 1

x_{2} = 1 + 0 = 1

x_{4} = x_{2} + x_{o} + 0 = 1 + 1 = 2

x_{6} = x_{4} + x_{2} + 0 = 2 + 1 + 0 = 3

x_{8} = x_{6} + x_{4} + 0 = 3 + 2 = 6

x_{10} = x_{8} + x_{6} + x_{2} = 6 + 3 + 1 = 10

x_{12} = x_{10} + x_{8} + x_{4} = 10 + 6 + 2 = 18

Thus clearly there are 18 ways to travel 12 miles

The electric potential in a particular region of space varies only as a function of y-position and is given by the function V(y)
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

E = 55.9583\ Volts/meter

Explanation:

First let's find the electric potential using y = 22.5:

V(y) = 1.69y^2 +15.6y+52.5

V(22.5) = 1.69(22.5)^2 + 15.6*22.5 + 52.5

V(22.5) = 1259.0625\ Volts

Then, to find the magnitude of the electric field, we just need to divide the electric potential by the distance y:

E = V/d

E = 1259.0625/22.5

E = 55.9583\ Volts/meter

What is the volume of an irregularly shaped object that has a mass 3.0 grams and a density of 6.0 g/mL
pogonyaev

Answer: The volume of an irregularly shaped object is 0.50 ml

Explanation:

To calculate the volume, we use the equation:

\text{Density of substance}=\frac{\text{Mass of substance}}{\text{Volume of substance}}

Density of object = 6.0g/ml

mass of object = 3.0 g

Volume of object = ?

Putting in the values we get:

6.0g/ml=\frac{3.0g}{\text{Volume of substance}}

{\text{Volume of substance}}=0.50ml

Thus the volume of an irregularly shaped object is 0.50 ml

How many ternary strings of length 2 n are there in which the zeroes appear only in odd-numbered positions?
Rashid [163]

In a string of length 2n, there are exactly n odd-numbered posiitons. In the remaning n even-numbered positions, we want to choose from only two possible digits, either a 1 or a 2. This means there are 2^n such ternary strings.
