Two vertical springs have identical spring constants, but one has a ball of mass m hanging from it and the other has a ball of m
OverLord2011 [107]

To solve this problem we will start from the definition of energy of a spring mass system based on the simple harmonic movement. Using the relationship of equality and balance between both systems we will find the relationship of the amplitudes in terms of angular velocities. Using the equivalent expressions of angular velocity we will find the final ratio. This is,

The energy of the system having mass m is,

E_m = \frac{1}{2} m\omega_1^2A_1^2

The energy of the system having mass 2m is,

E_{2m} = \frac{1}{2} (2m)\omega_1^2A_1^2

For the two expressions mentioned above remember that the variables mean

m = mass

\omega =Angular velocity

A = Amplitude

The energies of the two system are same then,

E_m = E_{2m}

\frac{1}{2} m\omega_1^2A_1^2=\frac{1}{2} (2m)\omega_1^2A_1^2

\frac{A_1^2}{A_2^2} = \frac{2\omega_2^2}{\omega_1^2}

Remember that

k = m\omega^2 \rightarrow \omega^2 = k/m

Replacing this value we have then

\frac{A_1}{A_2} = \sqrt{\frac{2(k/m_2)}{(k/m_1)^2}}

\frac{A_1}{A_2} = \sqrt{2} \sqrt{\frac{m_1}{m_1}}

But the value of the mass was previously given, then

\frac{A_1}{A_2} = \sqrt{2} \sqrt{\frac{m}{2m}}

\frac{A_1}{A_2} = \sqrt{2} \sqrt{\frac{1}{2}}

\frac{A_1}{A_2} = 1

Therefore the ratio of the oscillation amplitudes it is the same.

Lucy and her bike together have a mass of 120kg. She slows down from 4.5m/s to 3.5m/s. How much kinetic energy does she lose?
vovangra [49]
The kinetic energy of a moving object is given by
K= \frac{1}{2}mv^2
where m is the object's mass and v its velocity.

In our problem, the initial kinetic energy is:
K_i =  \frac{1}{2} m v_i^2 = \frac{1}{2}(120 kg) (4.5 m/s)^2=1215 J

while the final kinetic energy is:
K_f =  \frac{1}{2}mv_f^2 =  \frac{1}{2}(120 kg)(3.5 m/s)^2= 735 J

So, the kinetic energy lost by Lucy and her bike is
\Delta K = K_i - K_f = 1215 J - 735 J = 480 J

The statements below are all true. Some of them represent important reasons why the giant impact hypothesis for the Moon’s forma
Molodets [167]

Answer:

the order of importance must be     b e a f c

Explanation:

Modern theories indicate that the moon was formed by the collision of a bad plant with the Earth during its initial cooling period, due to which part of the earth's material was volatilized and as a ring of remains that eventually consolidated in Moon.

Based on the aforementioned, let's analyze the statements in order of importance

b) True. Since the moon is material evaporated from Earth, its compassion is similar

e) True. If the moon is material volatilized from the earth it must train a finite receding speed

a) True. The solar system was full of small bodies in erratic orbits that wander between and with larger bodies

f) False. The moon's rotation and translation are equal has no relation to its formation phase

c) false. The amount of vaporized material on the moon is large

Therefore, the order of importance must be

         b e a f c
