(a) Triply charged uranium-235 and uranium-238 ions are being separated in a mass spectrometer. (The much rarer uranium-235 is u

sed as reactor fuel.) The masses of the ions are 3.90x10—25 kg and 3.95x10—25 kg , respectively, and they travel at 3.00x105 m/s in a 0.250-T field. What is the separation between their paths when they hit a target after traversing a semicircle? (b) Discuss whether this distance between their paths seems to be big enough to be practical in the separation of uranium-235 from uranium-238.

Answer:

(a) 2.5 cm

(b) Yes

Solution:

As per the question:

Mass of Uranium-235 ion, m = 3.95\times 10^{- 25}\ kg

Mass of Uranium- 238, m' = 3.90\times 10^{- 25}\ kg

Velocity, v = 3.00\times 10^{5}\ m/s

Magnetic field, B = 0.250 T

q = 3e

Now,

To calculate the path separation while traversing a semi-circle:

\Delta x = 2(R_{U_{35}} - 2R_{U_{38}})

The radius of the ion in a magnetic field is given by:

R = \frac{mv}{qB}

\Delta x = 2(R_{U_{35}} - 2R_{U_{38}})

\Delta x = 2(\frac{mv}{qB} - \frac{m'v}{qB})

\Delta x = 2(\frac{m - m'}{qB}v)

Now,

By putting suitable values in the above eqn:

\Delta x = 2(\frac{3.95\times 10^{- 25} - 3.90\times 10^{- 25}}{3\times 1.6\times 10^{- 19}\times 0.250}\times 3.00\times 10^{5}) = 2.5\ cm

\Delta x = 1.25\ cm

(b) Since the order of the distance is in cm, thus clearly this distance is sufficiently large enough in practical for the separation of the two uranium isotopes.

The loudness of a sound is inversely proportional to the square of your distance from the source of the sound. if your friend is
kirill [66]
Let loudness be L, distance be d, and k be the constant of variation such that the equation that would best represent the given above is,
                    L = k/(d^2)
For Case 1,
                       L1 = k/(d1^2)
For Case 2,
                       L2 = k/((d1/4)^2)
For k to be equal, L1 = 16L2.
Therefore, the loudness at your friend's position is 16 times that of yours.

A person is nearsighted with a far point of 75.0 cm. a. What focal length contact lens is needed to give him normal vision
BigorU [14]

Complete Question

The  complete question is  shown on the first uploaded image

Answer:

a

  f=  -75 \ cm =  - 0.75 \ m

b

  P  =  -1.33 \ diopters

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

    The  image distance is  d_i = -75 cm

The value of the image is negative because it is on the same side with the corrective glasses

    The  object distance is  d_o =  \infty

The  reason object distance  is because the object father than it being picture by the eye

General focal length is mathematically represented as

              \frac{1}{f}  =  \frac{1}{d_i}  -   \frac{1}{d_o}

substituting values

             \frac{1}{f}  =  \frac{1}{-75}  -   \frac{1}{\infty}

=>         f=  -75 \ cm =  - 0.75 \ m

Generally the power of the corrective lens is  mathematically represented as

        P  =  \frac{1}{f}

substituting values

       P  =  \frac{1}{-0.75}

        P  =  -1.33 \ diopters

Calculate the gravitational potential energy of the interacting pair of the Earth and a 11 kg block sitting on the surface of th
trasher [3.6K]

Answer:

Gravitational potential energy (GPE) = 107.8J

Explanation:

Gravitational potential energy (GPE) = mgh

Where mass(m) = 11kg

Acceleration due to gravity(g) = 9.8m²/s

height = assumed to be 1m

Force(F) = mg

Force(F) = 11×9.8 = 107.8N

Gravitational potential energy (GPE) = 107.8×1

= 107.8J
